Folks,
I am sorry for the issues my post has caused. It was a combination of a few careless words and comments misconstrued. I do not condone the use of violence again innocent civilians for any reason. The anger and reactions in response to said post is justified and understood. It is unfortunate a few families have lost their loved ones and I hope they can find solace during this hard times. I also hope these actions were not politically motivated as the Sheriff is indicating.

I appreciate the Webmaster and many others who were willing to ask for clarification.

Kindly accept my apologies.
Thanks

Careless words? Perhaps.

What exactly was misconstrued, and in what way?

Thanks, Wink, for throwing some cold-water reality & knowledge on what has been a tinderbox subject. Your "Hell, I was there" perspective is what this thread desperately needs.

Ditto ... +, wink ...

Details: I 'think' the pistol was a GLOCK 19 (or a 17), as a -19's image is what appeared on the miscreant/shooter's MySpace (?) page prior to it being taken down ...

"31" round magazines ??? I am unfamiliar w/ these, as my only experience w/ extended GLOCK-sticks (OEM or aftermarket) are 33 rounders ... ???

The Congresswoman's husband, CAPT Mark Kelly, USN got his 'start' @ NAS Whidbey and was a member of ATKRON 115
flying the A-6E in Desert Storm (VA-115, Arabs/Eagles operating off the USS Midway, the squadron forward deployed to NAF Atsugi) ...

The guy is a psycho. It was wrong to try to characterize him as a "right wing nut" and it also doesn't matter if he's a leftist. He is a violent crazy person, and that's why he did what he did.

Looks more and more like the guy was a leftist. Doesn't matter so much as he was too much AFU'd to be breathing.

Daily KOS puts a bullsey on her. Wow, but, but, but, I thought the tea party was invovled.

I'm not sure that this guy is sane enough to have a political spectrum assignment. From what I've heard from him so far, he's completely NUTS. Whacko. Going to the drooling academy.

Just my opinion.

Her brother-in-law, CAPT Scott Kelly, is currently up in the ISS. Imagine getting that news up there.

(Also cool fact is that the Kelly's are the only twins and siblings to have been to space)

The kid seems whack beyond logic. His writings (if you can call em that) rant against everything from government to schools to literacy to everything. He just seems to hate society period.

News reported yesterday that they (NASA) got the word to him yesterday by private message shortly after it happened. Also, her husband (CAPT Mark Kelly) as he was getting ready to fly to Tuscon called the Houston ABC affiliate news room to correct the initial (incorrect) information that she had died in the shooting.

As an AZ resident and on the road (in southern AZ) for several hours listening to developments as they happened, I think the initial local coverage was as fair and accurate as you can get when things are so dynamic. As stated, comments about politics are out of line. Unfortunately, the Pima County Sheriff went way out of his expertise when he implied political discourse triggered the event and stated AZ was the capital of hate. I gave the Sheriff a break at first as he knew Gifford's and Judge Rolls personally. But he went way too far and way to long. His statements now give cover to the media to make this debate about the political discourse and by that they mean the hateful right. The Sheriff is a liberal Democrat widely criticized for his refusal to enforce the new immigration laws in AZ. His grief over the shootings of personal friends motivated him to take political swipes outside his law enforcement responsibilities. Comments about the contentious election she just came through does not mention that it was her Democratic primary opponent that was more vitriolic then her GOP general election opponent. The debate we will have to listen to about political debate being too contentious is built on a non existent foundation. There is NO evidence the shooter was motivated by traditional party politics or mainstream policy debates. John Hinkley wasn't motivated by Democratic criticism of Reagan. Squeaky Fromme wasn't inspired by Democratic criticism of Ford. And in neither case was the argument made by the GOP. The guy is a nut case. Anyone that brings politics into the discussion is simply trying to silence political speech in an environment where they are not winning the debate. And even though I didn't support Rep Gifford's for election, I know that is something she would not support dispite being in the party losing much of the debate. She was respected by everyone in AZ politics, most notably the ones that have been toe to toe with her. Disagreement, debate, even screaming and anger is a far cry from the hate or mental imbalance that led to this shooting.

Just because this guy was "simply'" an unstable lunatic and not politically motivated doesn't mean that the conversation about the tenor of political discourse these days isn' a valid one or that it doesn't have a solid foundation. Yesterday and today might not be a good time to have that conversation, but IMO it is absolutely a conversation that should be had. I'd love to say more, but am biting my tongue because it really isn't the time.

Sure but there is a time and place to do that... and down the road it will be appropriate to use this incident to argue for and against gun control etc.

But directly in the aftermath while people grieve for their loved ones, and pray that others survive their wounds, such arguments are best left out of the discussion.

I would like to extend my remarks from earlier: I had not really listened to any of my usual leftist/progressive radio shows in the last few days but I did today and most were shamefully, in my opinion, using these recent events to try and make very specific political arguments for increased gun regulation. I really didn't care for it one bit. Sure, I am solidly liberal and perhaps in the future I might cite this specific event as a reason for new firearms legislation. But I think what I am offended by is when someone, on the left or the right, tries to take advantage of a terrible situation where folks are grieving and very emotional. In addition, it is way too soon to even have all facts be known, reflect on the entirety of the situation, and come up with any sort of plan that could potentially reduce tragedies such as these.

What I do appreciate, and I'm willing to bet others on this thread do as well, is the outcry of support on both sides of the political spectrum for civility. Today Tea Party Express Chairwoman Amy Kremer (someone who I would most likely have serious political disagreements with) put it well imho: "These heinous crimes have no place in America, and they are especially grievous when committed against our elected officials... Spirited debate is desirable in our country, but it only should be the clash of ideas".

I'm going to choose to interpret that as meaning that you're thankful that something happened to precipitate a closer look at the negativity in politics...however...extremely poor choice of words, in context...

Anyway, this is a huge tragedy for everyone involved, worse that there's no one of sound mind to "blame" for it...and from what I understand, she was one of the good ones. Terrible.
