Question for those who have gone through OCS recently... any issues bringing in over-the-counter eye drops (for re-moisturizing the eyes) upon checking in? And, any issues with bringing in oral retainers as well? By retainers, I mean the kind that you put in at night for sleep if you had braces when you were a kid.

I know that during check in, the CandiO team checks everything being brought in - do you have to get an OCS doc's permission to bring the eye drops or retainers in as well? I know prescription and non-prescription medicine (such as antacids) are something docs need to look at, but I'm trying to figure out if I need to bring doctor's notes on those things or if they're common things no one cares about

You can't bring any meds not prescribed. You can ask for eyedrops at medical.

This. I brought both a retainer and re moisturizing eye drops. They didn't say anything about either item. They are concerned with drug meds, not things like eye drops.

I graduated in February of this year, FWIW.

Quick question about the medical, I got a list of shots they give you while at OCS. Do you get the shots at the medical the Monday of indoc or is it closer to the end of training? Just got a list of shots this week and was wondering when they were done.

About 3-4 weeks in you will get shots taken care of.

The eye exam is much more comprehensive than MEPS. They have a full optometry team on staff. My vision was rated at 20/40 at OCS but when I came down to Pensacola I was back at 20/20.

Hey guys, so I know this may be a silly question, but does anyone know how they treat holidays like Labor Day weekend or Thanksgiving at OCS? I will be at OCS September 15th, and will be there through Thanksgiving and just wanted to know how that was while you are there.

Pirate, on Labor Day you labor all day, then you hit the deck for a quick 20; on Thanksgiving... repeat above, with a lunch break to eat all the gobbler & smashed 'taters you can down in 10 minutes. Happy Holidays!

Is indoc now 4 weeks long? Every source I've seen on the internet says its a week but the OCS website says weeks 1-4 are the indoctrination period.

Don't confuse period with indoc week. What they mean is that your first 'phase' of training is about 4 weeks and focuses on military bearing, customs, and fitness culminating with a major room, locker, and personnel inspection. The second 'phase' weeks 5-10 is more classroom/mental endurance oriented with DC, seamanship, and navigation classes and the third 'phase', candio, is leadership oriented. Since the program 'builds' don't expect physical fitness and expectations of impeccable military bearing to completely go away in phase 2/3.
