What I did was shave before taps, then when you wake up, there is less growth making shaving in the morning easier. Then, for watch, I would shave before which was every other day. Also, after we got our hair 'styled' in the afternoon I would shave since my 5 o' clock would stand out more. I would get asked if I shaved later on at OCS and I would say 'yes'. For the most part they left me alone.

P.s. You really need to stop nuking this. It just adds more things for you to worry and stress about. Everyone does it, including yours truly, but you will survive and pass so long as you want to do it, and the staff won't kill you literally. You may wish you were dead though...

Can you show up at OCS with your head shaved already or do they want to be the ones to do it?

Ha, ha, well yes. BUT... I meant it more from a cultural sense. Like the shaving of the heads as a rite of passage, initiation ritual or something like that and if you were to usurp that, then maybe they will give you "beatings".

I prefer to shave my own head so I figured I could do that prior to showing up for OCS. I know alot of the info places an emphasis on the head shaving. I think there was even a thread here with some girl who was pissed about it.

Hey, this IS the "stupid questions" thread....hehe.

If you want to show up with a shaved head go for it, but you'll still get (and pay for) a haircut. Even if they don't cut any off you will sit in the chair and they will try to shave it. You don't meet your DI for a couple days so it won't get you a beating. By the time he meets you, everyone will look the same anyway. Theres no real "rite of passage" to it.

Ah, ok, that's what I wanted to know. Might as well grow out the dreadlocks then.

Thanks for the info.

Guy in my class showed up indoc day in a Lynrd Skynrd T shirt and a mullet (he had cut his hair into a mullet just prior) as a joke.... it was pretty damn funny.

You missed the guy in our class who had male pattern baldness. At our second haircut we were getting high & tights. Now THAT was a look only a mother could love...

That poor soul.

Hey, as long as we're on haircuts, how often do we get them at OCS? I "no guard" mine about once every two weeks the way it is; sometimes a 1 or 2 guard. Just curious.

Thanks.

In P'Cola we got them in the first week and then just before every inspection. Don't know how it works up north now though...

Not really OCS, but this thread gets enough traffic to help me - I'm confused on the difference between Pro-Rec and final select - is pro-rec for when you're still in school and can't report for a while and final is them saying 'yup, your slot is still open' right before you ship out?
