No dw, it’s an officer recruiter. Thats good to know tho bc if I don’t get accepted ocs im gonna do grad school and rotc but id need to tell the grad school by May 30 so im really hoping for that April decision.
I went to MEPS in Sept and my packet was in by Nov 6. I didn't need any waivers but I did need additional docs after MEPs and I still had everything done and approved within the time frame.

How long should i take to get in shape before OCS? I graduate college in May but part of my degree is that I’m required to take a 8 week field course. I asked today and they told me with the schedule they do not expect or recommend that we try to add physical fitness into our daily schedules as it is unfair to your project group if you are taking time to workout daily because it puts your group behind as you are “wasting your time and energy” instead of working on the daily project. the schedule is 6am-11pm Monday-Saturday and it’s im the middle of nowhere. It ends in August and my ideal would be to go to OCS not long after that. However, I realize after 6 weeks of just hiking I may be both out of shape and burnt out. How much time would you recommend I try to take off before OCS? Very specific circumstances, I know. Obviously I will try my hardest to workout when I can but when the instructors are doing all in their power to stop you from working out it’s going to be kind of difficult.

You’re asking a very subjective question. Some people might only need a few weeks, others much more.

It sounds like you will be pretty physically active, even if it's not a ton of exercise. Add stuff in where you can. Wake up and knock out some push-ups and hit a few sets before bed. Like, Guru said, it's super subjective based on where you currently are and your age.

Sounds cool!

Don’t underestimate the fitness value of hiking all day. Do 2 minutes of push-ups and 2 min of planks every morning and another time in the evening. You’d be surprised at how helpful that can be when you’re busy, and will take effectively zero time from your group. Run a couple of miles when you get the chance, every other day is enough and again, is a reasonable ask even on a busy team.

Doing anything consistently is always better than starting from nothing.

Howdy,

Long time lurker, first time poster here with a question regarding flight experience:

I have but two measly flight hours in the Skyhawk. Flight hours are extremely expensive and hard to come by where I live so that’s all I’ve been able to manage. I’ve seen many applicants on this site with an abundance of flight hours and I fear I may be at a severe disadvantage.

Here’s the caveat: I’m currently an enlisted aviator (airborne linguist) for the Air Force with about 200 combat flight hours and an Air Medal. Have a clearance, been through SERE training, the whole nine. The big question I have is will my military flight experience be taken in to consideration at the boards or could they care less? It’s not cockpit time obviously, but I’ve “walked the walk” so to speak in terms of flying in the military.

Any insight is much appreciated.

Aviation boards don’t care about flight time or awards. Do well on the ASTB exam.

So for immediate select board medical waivers don't matter?
The immediate select program, PA-106, is different than a normal selection board. From why I understand, your packet is reviewed by the program manager instead of a selection board. You do not qualify for immediate selection if you have any waivers with the exception of age. However, you may apply to normal selection boards with waivers.

Age is a waiver and can also be considered an exception to policy which would make a person ineligible for the immediate selection.

Correct, I should have clarified exactly what I meant by that. An age waiver MAY be accepted.
It won't, the board has final approval on all waivers, the immediate selection bypasses the board and the application is just reviewed by the OCM that it meets the parameters set forth in section 4.

That is why in section 5 is says "a waiver may be considered for candidates other than under immediate selection process."
