I’m seeing conflicting answers on whether or not we need civilian workout clothes.

Can anyone else chime in?
I start on the 7th and am only bringing a couple pairs just in case. The packing list says 8-10 civilian workout clothes but that is because of the addition of P-week. The class starting on the 7th of January does not have a P-week (I think because of holidays). So I am assuming that the 8-10 civilian workout pieces does not apply to us.

The only reason why you might want civilian work out clothes is if you end up in student pool due to injury or waiting on your NAMI approval. If you don’t have any hold ups and you’re in and out of OTCN in 13 weeks, the only civillian clothes you’ll need are the ones you check in/out and traveling with. I do not know anything about P-week, this is new.

I have a question that may fall into the Enlisted to Officer thread but thought I would try here. I was active before and switched to the reserves and recently got selected for OCS. I was wondering if anyone who has gone from the reserves to being selected to become an active duty officer has experienced any contact issues before with receiving their orders or on how they will be traveling to Rhode Island? I have made multiple contacts out to Mr. Celestin and my command. My command has had a hard time as well from hearing back. Is there another contact that may be helpful?

I don't have an answer or solution for you, but you're correct in being concerned with this. I know a former SELRES AWR who is now in flight school that had to jump through some hoops to get from his home to RI. They've done this before, so it shouldn't be new, but once you get through the holidays, I would keep reaching out.

I can't remember what they ultimately did. He may have gone on Schools ADT to get there, but I'm not sure how they terminated the orders. Sorry I can't be more help.

This time of year is generally difficult reaching people, I would see if you get responses the first week of Jan.

Thank you. In a way that gives me some peace at mind but yeah trying after the holidays sounds like a good plan.

Good evening!
I am Third class, and would love to be an intel officer through OCS. While i was preparing for OCS package, I've been told by my supervisor that I won't make it because I've been in the command for a year with no experience and he is not going to recommend me without being fulled qualified in my job and OCS is for people who have been in the navy for a while like him (10+ years of service). Is that true? Should I still put my package in? Thank you!
my stats:
Aeronautics 4.0 GPA
OAR 56
ASVAB 82
Working on master in intelligence operation.

Definitely not true, don’t disregard you supervisor thou. work hard in your job while continuing to build your package. Once you complete It, route it up to your CO. Your CO is the only person that can approve or deny it. Make it known in your CDB that this is what you want to do and ask for advice on how to get there. Know that you will be doing most of the work by yourself. I was lucky to have a buddy (an E-5) at the time to hook me up with his previous COs which are Captains now and then I had my previous DH which made commander as my interviewers. I had no problem with getting interviews but the higher the rank the better. Use your connections or get a mentor for the interview portion and overall package review. Talk with older CWOs/LDOs for their packages as they used the same application form than the newer ones within the last 4yrs.

Also, you don’t want to wait until 10 years in. You’ll be over the time-in-service requirement. Look at the PA, make it known that the earlier the better it is for you in getting picked up.I have seen dudes with under 2 years get accepted.

I applied at my 11 year mark which I regret. There was 3 jobs that I can apply for without a waiver because I was over 8 TIS. Every other job I would need a waiver for TIS which would have been harder to accepted with. Most would only accepted waivers no more than 10 yr TIS. If you have to wait or get deny, continue to push forward with working hard and being the best. I did all the work and received help from my chain and got denied from the OIC. Went to the next command and the CO (which was a Captain at a squadron) approved it immediately.

Stats: E-6, 12 TIS(now), GPA 3.0, ASTB 51 5’s, Pro Rec: Y SNFO.

There's a lot to unpack here...

Why didn't you submit an OCS package when you were going through the initial recruitment process?

If a recruiter "convinced" you to enlist first as a better means to go officer... I'm sorry but you got duped. If you personally chose to go enlisted because you either (1) wanted to join sooner or (2) personally felt it would help you odds going officer... I'm sorry but you played yourself here.

I agree with @Jacksa71 that 10+ years TIS will be too late, but it's going to be a bit of while getting qualified + learning your enlisted job + earning good evaluations before your chain of command will truly endorse you going officer.

First I will +1 on what @FormerRecruitingGuru said.

When you say supervisor are you saying a PO1, CPO, or other?

You have a lot of info to gather, maybe your supervisor has some inside info about the CO? I have know and heard of DH's and CO's that would not recommend a person for OCS unless they are fully qualified in their job and have their warfare device.

The other thing is look at the PA and then if your only push back is that you don't have 10 years show them that you were using the PA as a checklist to make sure you were qualified and that the TIS limit is 12 years.
