Its not that big of a deal to get injured and sent to H. Holding company isn't really that bad, its just when someone has to stay there for a long time that it can get to them. They sometimes lose sight of the finish line... Just take care of yourself and don't make a big deal out of little things and you should be fine. Its pretty rare for someone to brake something there.

does it matter what type of shoe polish you buy? The liquid stuff versus the paste kind. Should I bring a brush for my shoes? thanks

No need to buy anything, you're going to get a polishing kit issued to you when you get there. It will have everything in there to shine your shoes. You will use the paste kind.

Hi,
I was reading the required doc section on the OTCN website and was wondering what the DEERS paperwork involves (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System). I have no idea what this is or when I have to fill out this paperwork. Does my recruiter give this to me before I go to OCS? Also, it says that it is "highly recommended" that I obtain my military ID prior to arrival. Can that be done in my recruiters office as well?
Thanks
KAT

You'll get your military ID while at OCS. You will fill out any remaining paperwork during indoc week as well.

While I was there, serious injurys would stay in H for a rediculous amount of time and then go back to join a class when you had rehabed. It was a truly miserable experience for those guys and alot of them ended up DOR'ing after a while. I saw several stay for almost 6 months. Before I left I heard Master Guns was trying to institute a system where those people would be sent home and have to reapply, but their application would generally be accepted. I don't know if anything ever came of that, but it would definitely be better...

That is how it works in Marine OCS. You get dropped for "Failure to Evaluate"; Which means either you were broken, really sick or were a light duty queen.

Alright so I have a couple questions and felt most comfturable asking here.
After being final select I have to go into the recruiters office and sign contracts and pay stuff,
How long is the contract for for sna
and when do I start being paid? after OCS? Im trying to figure out whether I should save up money this summer.

Contract for SNA is 8 years after winging.

You start being paid on day 1 of OCS. You should save up some money regardless in case there are pay issues.

I am going to OCS May 31 09. I started running a lot and began getting shin splints. I think they are healed now but I was just wondering how common they are in OCS? Also what usually happens if one gets them? You fight through it or get them treated?

Also do you do a lot of pull ups in OCS? I ask because I had an injury a few years ago that damaged my bicep. I can do them but it can be slightly painful sometimes.

-Thanks

If you get shin splints in OCS, you will roll to H-class. Until your healed. One thing that can help that, is new shoes that are for your type of foot. For instance if you're a pronator or have a wide foot. That's a BIG help on shin splints. Don't try to push yourself too hard with injuries, because it'll more than likely cause more damage and then you'll be out longer.

You don't do any pull ups at OCS, unless you do them on your own. You'll do a lot of push-ups, curl-ups (sit-ups), 6-90's (leg lifts), and running. That's pretty much all we did!

good Luck!!

Thanks. When OCS is finished, what physical demands are there? You have to pass a PRT once or twice a year. Is that it?
