I received two OCS preparation notebooks that I thought were the same but one must be updated because one says show up between 8 and 11, and the other says show up at whatever time your orders say but there is not time specified on my orders.

I know I saw this asked recently, but I can't find it.

I couldn't pass the MEPS depth test, but with enough time I passed the randot - can I ride through OCS on a doc's note and then take the randot again at NAMI? If not, hows that work?

Commission Request? (Edit, Two Questions)

I have two stupid questions:

1. Do any candidate officers request to commission into another service? And if so, how do they do so? What arguments are made?

2. Do any candidate officers ever gain weight at OCS? So far all I've heard is about people losing weight. I'm 5'9" 140 and am trying to gain some muscle mass before going. Do candidates ever end up bulking up a bit at OCS if they're on the thin-side coming in?

^not that I have seen or heard. You commission Navy. As far as being able to switch later in your career (after your obligation is done), it is possible.

It's actually very easy to gain weight after about midway through the training. Most DIs tend to lay off the beatings around that time, and chow is all-you-can-eat.

Yeah, all you can eat in 20 minutes, by the numbers...

Stupid question here:

Will a Mac work on the Navy network at OCS?

I use a regular Windows desktop for the most part but have a Macbook that rarely gets used. If I bring this to OCS will there be a problem with the networks? Also, I have Office Suite for Mac, but I know in college we had to use some Excel add-ons that Macs didn't support...this was a problem and lead me to buy my Windows PC and ultimatly shelf the Macbook. Do we use the laptops for classes or just for communication and leisure?

Will the Mac work or should I just buy a new laptop prior to going?

I am pretty certain I saw something on the OCS website saying candidates do not have access to the networks with thier own computers. There are computers provided with internet access when needed. Hopefully someone who has been can confirm, but this is what the website indicates.

I know people stash their laptop, cell phone, iPod, etc until they get the privileges as a candi-o, but why bring something that is useless/valuable to sit in a car if that's the case?

There are a few people here currently in OCS that I see post occasionally, so hopefully they can clear it up for us.

There is no "Leisure" as an Officer Candidate. Computers with internet access are provided, but they, like anything else at OCS are earned. You may want to have your laptop for candio phase, if you're given the opportunity to go to the internet cafe on base, or elsewhere on libo, etc. But don't expect to be chillin' in your pway facebooking your friends.

I apologize if mistaken, but "leisure" was used in the loosest terms possible. Thanks for answering my question...seems if laptops are *hopefully* earned for work, etc, there is no real need to bring mine from home. I'm sure there are plenty of other fun things to do in the candio phase than chill in the internet cafe. :icon_tong

We had one guy (you will too in your OCS class) that spent every waking hour of liberty in that place playing World of Warcraft.
