sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

I have two stupid questions:

1. Do any candidate officers request to commission into another service? And if so, how do they do so? What arguments are made?

2. Do any candidate officers ever gain weight at OCS? So far all I've heard is about people losing weight. I'm 5'9" 140 and am trying to gain some muscle mass before going. Do candidates ever end up bulking up a bit at OCS if they're on the thin-side coming in?

2. i gained weight. i naturally have very little body fat so i actually gained weight from muscle, i believe the only one in the class to do so.

Stupid question here:

Will a Mac work on the Navy network at OCS?

I use a regular Windows desktop for the most part but have a Macbook that rarely gets used. If I bring this to OCS will there be a problem with the networks? Also, I have Office Suite for Mac, but I know in college we had to use some Excel add-ons that Macs didn't support...this was a problem and lead me to buy my Windows PC and ultimatly shelf the Macbook. Do we use the laptops for classes or just for communication and leisure?

Will the Mac work or should I just buy a new laptop prior to going?

you won't need a laptop till you can get to the leisure place that has wireless internet. you will never connect your home computer into any official navy network. the macbook will work fine. you won't need it really for anything other than screwing around at the leisure center.

But don't expect to be chillin' in your pway facebooking your friends.

i like to think i was the first at newport OCS to be posting on air warriors and facebook from my pway on my own laptop PRIOR to candi-o phase

basically i was assisting with the video so the DI allowed me to bring my laptop in, and we were allowed to have cell phones cause it was like the week prior to candi-o phase... tethered cell phone + laptop = unrestricted internet within the confines of the pway.

your mileage may vary, of course -- especially since the DI's and other staff read this forum and have now seen this :icon_smil

Thanks. Sounds like a Blackberry should be enough for checking emails, messaging the wife, and occasionally browsing the news. That saves me from dusting the Mac off and figuring out how to work the OS again.

I know I saw this asked recently, but I can't find it.

I couldn't pass the MEPS depth test, but with enough time I passed the randot - can I ride through OCS on a doc's note and then take the randot again at NAMI? If not, hows that work?

Bumping my Q - kinda worried since it took me about 20 minutes to read the Randot down to 25 arc seconds and that was under the best of circumstances, not OCS.

i was under the impression that there wasn't a time limit on the randot test but i might be wrong. i think feddoc (i think that is his name) could answer the question in the DOC's corner area of this website.

my last yearly physical the guy tried to hurry me through the randot test and i took my sweet ass time but i got every single one of them -- just took awhile.

As amazing as airwarriors has been for resources I have been trying to find other websites with information about prepping for OCS. A bunch of the ones I found in old posts are no longer working. I am just wondering if anyone/everyone with a helpful website could put up some links in here.

I think usnavyocs.com has good stuff, but for aviation related stuff I'd trust the fellows here.

I looked on the OTC Rhode Island website and it said that I needed my immunization records and lab work for the first day. Are they talking about my paperwork from MEPS or do I need to ask for my records from my primary doctor? Thanks

If one develops shin splints and needs some sort of pain medicine who is the best person to ask? The DI?

I get minor pain when I run, is the running that intense throughout all 12 weeks that I should be concerned?

I have an odd question. I have been told to buy two pair of running shoes, one to wear the other to display for inspection. My question is when you do this where do you put your dirty pair during the inspection? Because I could see it would be wise to have some items such as a shirt folded perfectly for inspections that I don't wear tucked away but where am I putting the dirty clothes and items I don't want the DI's to see?

awwww seabags clever. So is that where your civilian atire is kept throughout training as well, or do you just store that with your suitcase?

Store it with your suitcase? When you walk into OCS, you will have the clothes you are wearing and an envelope that contains all of the things specified on an "OCS Checklist" they give you right when you check in there. Thats it. You leave your suitcase/personal bags in your car. If you don't drive, you ask someone in your class if you can keep your stuff in their car.

Oh common you had to have a suitcase or bag. Sadly I wont get the chance to drive in my piece of junk car has a radiator leak and wouldn't make it from Utah even if I dragged it. However they have a long list of stuff you have to bring with you towels, shirts, shaving, swim trunks ect its not like I could walk up with that in my pockets I got to have a bag of some sorts that I store somewhere. I guess most of that sort of stuff will be worked out once I get there though so its ok. :sleep_125 time to go run one more time and see if I can shave another 10 sec of my run before my PFA.
