sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

My guess is it doesn't seeing as hot it says memorize verbatim. But I am not sure, I class up on 06 APRIL... When do you class??
 
You're thinking about this stuff way too much. Go drink beer and chase women while you still can. If you must know, you should memorize it verbatim. Either way you will push for something else you screw up. OCS is a no-win situation pretty much all the way through.
 
Its "I will never forget that I am an American..." but as previously said you'll find out soon enough, it doesn't really matter cause you'll get beat for it anyway, and you should be having fun right now not worrying about how to use the 3rd person at OCS.
 
The only times I was asked Code of Conduct stuff were by LTs at outpost and RLPs where it doesn't matter what the hell you say, the DI's are gunna get some.
 
You can say I in this specific case. Verbatim is verbatim. As others have said... enjoy a few beers... but it is a good idea to actually look at some of that stuff so you aren't blind sided. 20min a night is a little on the heavy side of studying.
 
why is it 'reform at the door' during chow hall procedures when a door is obviously a hatch. Why do they get mad when you say 'I' but make you say 'aye' all the time? Your thinking way too hard on this stuff...If you want, I can introduce you to a Son of a Grunt.
 
This definitely gets my vote for "Most Awesome Thread". I would pay good money to see someone replace "I" in the CoC and Duties of a Sentry to "This Officer Candidate". That would absolutely make my day! Seriously, all your questions will be answered in a calm and gentle way once you get to OCS. Take tiger84's advice and relax while you can. You'll have 13...wait, 12 now?...weeks to figure OCS out later. If you want to worry about something OCS related in the mean time, get yourself into the best shape of your life. That will help you much, much more at OCS than any memorizing. Trust me, the academic portion at OCS is designed to be challenging only if you're severely retarded.

Yeah, im a stress case. I gotta worry about something, right? I wasn't that bad though I think. We are in candio phase and counting the days till next friday. Overall things are good. I have my ship selected and will be going to Norfolk. How about yourself?
 
Hahaha...ya'll got the wrong idea about me. I am just curious...and tend to pay great attention to detail. I know that I can't avoid incurring the wrath of the DI's, but I am dedicated to being as prepared as possible. I am fully capable of relaxing while also preparing myself for what is to come. I am 28 years old...I have been enjoying beers and chilling for over 10 of those years, so now I am focusing on preparing myself for the beginning of my career as a Navy officer. I figure that I should memorize as much as I can before I go, that way I will be that much more prepared...and I can spend my time helping others or studying other material. I am not aiming to just survive OCS, I am planning to excel. Most of my preparation has been focused on the physical training, because I do realize that being physically prepared will be most beneficial. I appreciate all of the responses, especially the ones that actually answered my question.

P.S. Someone asked when I was scheduled to begin OCS...and the answer is that I am not. I am in the process of waiting for my PROREC. I can do nothing but wait right now, so I figured that I would use this time to prepare in the eventuality that I am honored enough to gain admittance. If nothing else, I will be more healthy and knowledgeable in the end.
 
Well good on you for being dedicated. As others have stressed being in good shape is number one as far as prep for OCS. You could show up a complete retard, never having looked at the big 4, and if you are a PT stud you will probably be better off than most.

When did that happen? It always used to be "hatch" and "hatchbody". Do they still do that by the way? Or is he the "doorbody"?

"Class 20-89, upon receiving the command of execution, you will half-step up the ladderwell, perform an immediate column left, and reform at the hatch!"

"Aye,aye, section leader!"

(when stopped at he hatch)

"Hatchbody, off the rear!"

"Hatchbody reporting as ordered, section leader."

"Hatchbody, post"

"Aye,aye, section leader!"

"Hatchbody, report status of chow hall deck"

"Chowhall deck all clear, section leader!" (repeated by the entire class)

" Hatchbody, crack the hatch"

"Aye,aye, section leader!"

"Class 20-89, marching into chow!"

"Class 20-89, marching into chow, aye, aye, section leader!"

I guess if you say something verbatim 3 times a day for an entire summer, you'll remember it 19 years later. I need to free up some space on my mental hard drive.
 
It was Doorbody when I went thru with class 01-02 in 2001. Maybe it was part of the SWOification, but that did not make much sense as they tend to be the more anal about calling door hatches even ashore.
 
Wow, thats pretty crazy that in 19 years and a 1000 mile move its still very similar. Only now it is "doorbodies off the rear" (there are two because there is a hatch inside the hatch in Newport), they perform a column right to reform at the "door", and they do the discipline ditty when they get there (and before "doorbodies off the rear") to remove their gloves/covers. Still it seems very similar 19 years later.

Which makes it all the more perplexing that they changed it from "hatch" to "door". If it had been the other way around, I would say "Some SWO probably got all bent out of shape about the terminology".

Somebody at some point made a consious decision to change the term. I wonder who and why? That's probably the most pointless question ever posted on this forum, but, what the hell.
