Allegedly (as reported in the Ensign grapevine), there are studs classing up for the T-44C at 31 within the month that were told they are going to be in the first P-8 class.

Sounds possible... Whiting started selecting P-8 students a couple months ago...

You sure about that? I didn't think -30 had any P-8's yet, let alone RFT Cat 1 nuggets.

So you are saying there is a Maritime P-3 and Maritime P-8 directly out of Primary now?

Two of my friends selected Maritime out of primary, and got a phone call a few days later saying they had P-8 slots. They didn't immediately select P-8s, and you can't put them down specifically on your dream sheet, but apparently they are being selected at the beginning of advanced rather than the end.

They get their first P-8in January. The IP's have already been training up in the sim. For ceratin, they will be training RP's in P-8 by May, since that's when VP-16 gives up their P-3's.

Have they been told that they are going to go through a different Multi syllabus? It would seem superfluous to select P-8 out of primary... why not just wait until advanced?

As far as I know, the syllabus is supposed to be the same in Advanced. It's just now you can select P-3 or P-8 at the end.

I would say they are determining whether you will be P-8 or P-3 at the begining of advanced because they want you to fly the -44C, most Navy guys I knew were flying alphas and the C-130J/E-6/E2C2 guys were filling the Charlie spots, but that is only speculation.

If thats the real reason, it's a pretty stupid reason. Transitioning from a traditional instrument system to electronic is pretty easy. Going through 35 would set you up just fine. And what happens if you want MPRA but dont want to go VP? You have to make the decision to go VP or VQ right from the beginning?

Your profile says you are in a VP squadron. What experience do you have going to a glass cockpit?

As simple as it may seem, there are lots of nuances going to all glass. An even more interesting transition was going from a glass cockpit to a cockpit with glass AND a HUD.

I don't know if this is too much information for the board or not. . .but will the P-8 have the HUD that the new 737s have been coming with?

All of our aircraft are EFDS.... half the birds at VP-30 are EFDS half are legacy... I have plenty of experience transitioning between legacy instruments and EFDS aircraft... sometimes in the same day.

I can't speak to a HUD... but the T-44C doesn't have one so not really an issue...
