Just looking for a reality check. I had a tympanoplasty about 8 weeks ago and was fully cleared on Dec 20. I got slotted into the 07 Jan OCS class as a SNFO. I completed my Pre-Ship PRT yesterday and passed with no issues. My recruiter sent all of my clearance paperwork to Navy Medical on Dec 20, however they have not received word back on my final medical status regarding this surgery and therefore wouldn’t let me swear in and everything. (According to NAMI standards this surgery does not require a waiver)

I am just wondering if it is possible for me to be leaving on Friday or if I need to prepare myself to leave at a later date.

It depends. Ask your recruiter.

Is this waiverable? When I was around 6-7 years old I had an allergic reaction to salmon. Since then I have not had an allergic reaction to anything including salmon. Last month I went to the allergist and I had a negative skin prick test, pretty low IgE, and I passed an oral food challenge (I ate 4oz of salmon with no reaction). The doctor said that she believes I outgrow the allergy and that I do not require an epipen also she said she would be willing to write me a statement for MEPS and other military physicals if needed. I also have a copy of all the documents from this appointment. Is something like this waiverable for MEPS and NAMI the online standards don’t really mention what happens if you outgrow the allergy or pass an OFC.

How does the Navy know you (possibly) had a reaction to Salmon?

I would assume through MHS genesis because I had a skin prick test done when I was a kid around the time I had the reaction and back then it came back positive. It will be in my medical history

Yeah, luckily I don’t have any other medical issues besides this. I think it would be pretty stupid if they didn’t waiver the childhood salmon allergy since I have outgrown the allergy and am no longer allergic based on the testing I did with my allergist.

You should walk into MEPS eating a whole salmon

Don't over think this. What is your most recent doctor telling you now? That's your current condition. If someone somehow found out about what happened when you were 4, you have the medical documentation to back up your current condition.

Hello all, not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I need some answers. This is pretty embarrassing to say but I have been noticing blood in my stool for quite some time and I recently went to the doctor about it and she believes it is internal hemorrhoids but says there is no way to know for sure without getting a colonoscopy. I am an SNA applicant and will be going to OCS in the summer. I guess my question is if I get a colonoscopy will this ruin my chances of passing the medical exam? I already passed MEPS but this problem started occurring after. If this is not the right forum to ask this question please let me know which one is. Thanks for the help.

Get the colonoscopy. Blood in the stool is not normal, and the causes range from trivial to life-threatening. The colonoscopy itself won't be disqualifying. What is found, if anything, may be, but don't get ahead of yourself.
