What is physically preventing the Europeans from defending themselves while we concentrate on the Pacific?
What has enabled their defense without them having to each become nuke powers is the mutual defense treaty and our nuclear umbrella.

80 years of European relative peace, which has been highly beneficial to us.

Cool Wikipedia page.

The status quo can not continue. We are $37 Trillion in debt and facing a more important threat in the Pacific - we can assist with NATO but the Warsaw Pact is gone. Europe has no physical reason not to be able to defend against a Russian invasion.

From Poland's President Donald Tusk last week: “Our deficit has been the lack of the will to act, having no confidence, and sometimes even cowardice. But Russia will be helpless against united Europe,” Tusk said, adding: “It’s striking but it’s true. Right now, 500 million Europeans are begging 300 million Americans for protection from 140 million Russians who have been unable to overcome 50 million Ukrainians for three years."

Fiscal conservatives have been saying that since the Nixon era... and yet here we are. Ironic, then, that the only administration to balance a budget in modern times was a Democrat.
Mostly because of a Republican House speaker who stonewalled his fiscal policy and an historic economic boom that dramatically increased tax revenue yet crashed as soon as he left office.

Tusk also stressed that Poland cannot restrict itself to conventional weapons.

"We must be aware that Poland must reach for the most modern capabilities also related to nuclear weapons and modern unconventional weapons ... this is a race for security, not for war," he said.

China is watching us toss our 80 year Allie’s to the side…

China's not watching anything. There's not a single ally or partner in the Pacific who will commit to joining the U.S. in a defense of Taiwan or South China Sea territorial integrity conflict.

China knows this. Their calculation has nothing to do with what is happening in Europe because they already know that the U.S. is a unilateral military power in the Pacific.

Ok let me be more precise. China and Taiwan are watching how we are pivoting from Ukraine to Russia, leaving Ukraine hanging.

Taiwan's standing has nothing to do with American military support, and everything to do with the fact that they don't have a separatist political will.

We could decide to deploy 0 naval ships to the western pacific for the next 5 years and the geo-political situation between the PRC and ROC wouldn't change. They have a symbiotic relationship that both leaders are mostly content with. That's why our official position is that we don't recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state.

Yes, the DON is hawkish on the issue. Relevant political leaders, the Dept. of State, and academics... not so much. But the PRC boogeyman is what brings home the bacon.
