There was also that whole USN/USAF joint engine thing too, the F100 I think? It was supposed to be for the Tomcat and Eagle? I also remember reading once how Gen. Chappie James wanted the F-14 as an interceptor for Air Defense Command.

It was the F101 Deriative Fighter Engine Program (used core from B-1 engine) and the products ended up in the F-14 Tomcat as the F110 and also yielded deriatives for the F15 and F-16.

HJ, those videos suck! No disrespect but my God that pisses me off. I would love nothing more than to have one of our former Tomcat drivers flying the Rhino splash one of the grease ball looking crews flying our airplanes! Those have to be what, bloc 30's? No IRST or TCS. How the hell does the AWG-9 still work? Mr. Grumman himself should be rolling in his grave! Plus, because of them how many of our F-14's had to be DRMO'd? Every Tomcat book out there now has to show them being torn apart so the freak'n Iranians can't update theirs. I had to vent, I miss my airplane.

So it goes...(apologies to Kurt)

What is a "continuous bomber presence?" F-22s are forward deployed strike craft?

You think you're old! (If that's what you're trying to say.:)) Busybee, Derf, Corkyboy and I worked there during the 60's in VA-44. There's a thread here about 44, if you're interested. Lots of old photos with really good looking Sailors :icon_wink and sexy A-4's. :)
