Out of curiosity, how does the hold back work for the "new style" ones? (Bugs, Rhinos, ClownJets)

Think everything uses a "repeatable release holdback" now...basically a couple of spring-tensioned jaws that clamp ...correct amount of tension springs the jaws open...or something like that. No more "frangible pieces" one the newer aircraft.

Pictures of 2 Ospreys from the "Thunderchickens" landing at Hospital Point, USNA, on Friday. Sorry about the piss-poor quality, I was stuck with a cell phone camera.

I'm guessing that the WarCOD will be the last aircraft to use the frangible holdbacks.

I don't know what the E-2D will use though. They may keep the frangible holdback for it. The weight regime on the E-2D will match the COD's and the $$$ for the -D isn't going into redesign of the launch gear, it's going into the backend.

Saw this on Navy.mil and thought it appropriate. Why did the Navy get rid of C-130's (on the active side at least) again?

Out of curiosity - what was 263 doing at USNA? I thought they were working up for a deployment...

They did a static display for the 1/C and 2/C Parent's weekend, and the flyover for the Rutgers football game. The flyover was pretty sweet, one came over in airplane mode, one in helo mode. They brought their CO/XO, and a couple of pilots who were Academy grads. They also briefed the Brigade about their deployment.

What is that trim switch looking thing on the towel rack there for??

Chaff/flare switch. You grab the handle ("towel rack"_) next to it to help you move around the cockpit. If you're looking over your shoulder and see a missile fired, you can just thumb the switch and it'll put out a burst of chaff/flares.
