Anyone know of a good place for leather G-1 flight jacket repair (correct zipper, new cuffs) in the central NJ area (JB MDL)?
Thanks.

This is stupid. Fly to ROK, go to Dark Horse Leather in Osan, and have the exact same jacket recreated for a fraction of the price. Spend all the money you save on a nice watch. :D

The Korean leather jacket should be standard issue. It makes the current standard issue G-1 look like it’s from Temu.
The Korean one is more supple, warmer, and is fitted to each individual. They look great and feel better. But, at the end of the day they are not standard issue. So there are differences.

True. If you are a purist, then original issue may be the right fit for you . . .

The Korean jackets offer the most customization for the price, but I think the Avirex/cockpit USA jackets have the best cut and leather. If they came with secret pockets they’d be perfect.

I have both. My Avirex/Cockpit jacket (Raider jacket) is amazing. Great leather and quality, but VERY heavy. My Black Horse jacket is very comfortable, well made and relatively light. You make good points !!

I know my issued one feels very hard. I had a $50 leather jacket in college that felt more pliable even though it was probably very cheap bonded leather. And no amount of leather conditioner really changed anything to my issued jacket. But some people’s issued jackets look or feel different which I always wondered about.

Wiki for the G-1 has a good write up about the history of the supplier contracts. Somewhere along the line the requirement went from goatskin to cowhide, and Excelled Mfg makes a shit jacket.

Sure it’s $500 or so, but my advice would be to get the Cockpit USA jacket. It’s American made and goatskin like the original spec (Korean jackets are calfskin). We make enough money that it falls into the “buy once cry once” category.

Yea I’ve read that article. It’s eye opening on the requirements that go into the G-1 and how it’s changed.

I might buy that as a present to myself one day.

I was going to ask the same thing. This place apparently does it, and will even replace the fake sheepskin a lot of us have on the collar with real stuff. I have no idea if they're any good, though. They're about 2 hours away from you. If you use them let me know how it goes. https://www.flightjacket.com/jacket-repair.html
