I was going to ask the same thing. This place apparently does it, and will even replace the fake sheepskin a lot of us have on the collar with real stuff. I have no idea if they're any good, though. They're about 2 hours away from you. If you use them let me know how it goes. https://www.flightjacket.com/jacket-repair.html
I can give them a thumbs up. They replaced the cuffs and waist band on mine a few years ago and did spectacular work.

What are people’s thoughts about G-1s and patches?

Personally I think it looks good with just a nametag.
I never put patches on mine because I like to wear it both in and out of uniform. To a lot of guys, though, it serves as kind of a wearable shadow box, so I can see the appeal of putting patches on it, too. I'd say personal preference.

Never had patches on mine.
However, when deployed for Op Joint Endeavor, I had a round black Velcro patch added opposite the name tag.
Sort of a happy medium, and allows for one changeable patch to be worn.
HMX-1 has the squadron patch sewn opposite the name tag.

Big fan of name, squadron (stacking optional if they look cool), and flag. Some guys have platform or WTI on right shoulder.

I like the look of all leather patches and embroidered, but I have only seen leather patches in person. Never seen someone with embroidered patches on the g-1.

Like, embroidered on the jacket itself?

Sad update from Typsy Gypsy who just cancelled my pending order:

The Navy has Asked me to remove and stand down on all US Naval Aviation patches & tags. My sincere apologies as I no longer have permission to do these. Ill refund your order & the shipping cost
Immediately. Very sorry this happened.
Respectfully,
Gypsy

Huge bummer for the community since they have the highest quality patches by a wide margin. They take forever, but it’s worth it.

How the hell can do the Navy do that?

Looks like the Navy has nixed flight suites in the NCR. There's been a mini revolt over it at my agency.
Liked for "revolt" !!!

Navy needs to rebrand the flight suit as the the Aviation Duty Uniform (ADU). And permit wear in office environments.

The Air Force has a master class in this and they do it well. There is zero virtue to the service uniforms...

@jmcquate (and Chuck) I have to say…”fuck ‘em.” OK, maybe not that cruel, but it is absolutely pathetic to see grow men going to an office in a flight suit when the nearest airfield is several miles away. Besides, why just aviators? Why can’t SEALS and SpecWar types wear their daisy dukes and comically tight T-shirts to the office? Maybe grunts could wear their boonie hats to the Pentagon? I can assure you, no civilian is showing up to work in worn out jeans and a sweaty henley shirt. I get it, if you are on an airbase and you are flight crew then the look is just fine, but people in the MDW need to dress in a proper uniform and show some pride in their service standards…and this applies to the USAF. Unless everyone rate can wear a flight suit to the office, there is no reason to let flight crew do it.

Fair points @Griz882. I work with O-5s who dont even own a service uniform - and Reservists that havent worn anything but a flight suit in decades. I think its a generational thing.

Slowly changing now that drill periods are now required to include complete "seabag" uniform inspections. Not necessarily wearing the uniform, but displaying the uniform on a conference room table as proof you a. own it and b. you know how to configure it.

There is a small rebellion on the fact that AF is requiring members to own the standard duty, not 2-piece flight suit, OCP uniform...
