Thanks. AFAIK, the rule change only affected the prerequisites for the ATP written, but it's good to know.

I'm working with Sanders at the moment, trying for the end of June. Got a couple of backups in mind. Thanks, everyone for the gouge.
Go to Gordo! Worth traveling across the country! Great American

True, but over the course of a career, the average quality of life for someone hired today will be dramatically better than for someone hired in 7 years.
What about his post make you think he advocated waiting years (7?) to apply? I read it as IF it will be years before you make the move, whether because of EAOS, rotary transition thru the regionals, taking a bonus, etc, you will likely still have a good shot at heavy iron.

I didn’t necessarily think he was advocating that course, I just wanted to put that out there because I’ve heard more than a few people make similar statements in defense of waiting, staying in, and/or trying other things before the airlines. And I think people who don’t have regular contact with people flying for a major have a tendency to underestimate the long-term importance of seniority. It’s true - you’ll probably still be able to get in for quite a while, but if getting in now is an option for you, you should be seriously and accurately weighing the cost of delaying that move.

All true. Back in the late 80s UAL was under a court order to hire minorities. So if you were a white dude you went into a pool just like waiting for Navy Primary. I flew with a guy at a commuter who got hired by UAL and he just sat in the pool waiting for the call flying Shorts 360s instead of interviewing elsewhere. Waited about a year. Almost 1000 numbers. We all thought it was nuts.

On the macro level, the airlines will be hiring like gangbusters for the next decade. The demand won't peak for another 7 years. Even if you start in a regional, you won't stay there long. Lots of churn as the main line carriers hire down into the regional feeder airlines.

On the micro level it's changing day by day and varies widely between recruiters and individual airlines. Lots of gouge is out of date. This is especially true for helo bubbas, who are now prime candidates for hiring.

If you want to know more about rotary-to-airlines transitions and are local to SoCal or the Midwest, feel free to ping me directly. And here's a rotary wing transition brief coming up:

RTP Brief San Diego 2 June

Appreciate the gouge and hope it's true. MSR is still 2 years away and I'm already concerned I'm missing my opportunity...

Any rotorheads in SOCAL welcome to attend. This Saturday, lots of good gouge, opportunities for 1v1 counseling. Free to all comers. Plus some munchies and and beer just around the corner.

Hey man, your timing will be good. The regionals are struggling to fill and it's getting worse. A specific example, one of the mainline carriers is going to lose thousands of pilots due to mandatory retirement age in the next 5 years. The mainline carriers will then reach down into the regionals to backfill, and this will make the demand increase more. It will play out over a decade before the window closes.

It's not too soon to do some research, even if you're undecided. Feel free to contact me directly. Paul (at) goflexair (dot) com.

Does it come with a pipe organ for playing foreboding music and would you happen to know if anybody makes a Prussian Army helmet with an aviation headset built it?
