Any military aviation accidents that resulted in charges like these? I'm not trolling, just curious. Accidents have killed people and destroyed property on the ground, but I haven't heard of a case being brought of negligent homicide or anything similar.
Criminal charges for civilian professional pilots, in the US? Never to the best of my knowledge and that goes way back. It happens all the time in other countries, especially Europe. ATC controllers too.

These US pilots convicted in Brazil. As I recall the copilot was an AA pilot on furlough. https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-...ns-in-2006-air-disaster-idUSLNE89F01420121016

These indictments came after much careful study - I mean in no was was this reactionary. I like that Director of Naval Reactors was the authority determining what actions came from these collisions. I can't think of a better choice. He's a line officer, but from the Submarine Force so he is unlikely to have any deep connections to the Surface Force leadership that he reviewed.

So it's good to see the system of leadership and accountability working - ultimately its all about getting to the truth.

I hope one of the outcomes is a real review of human performance with respect to sleep/rest. No more "suck it up Buttercup". The lessons Aviation learned 70 years ago.

This isn't the first time the Director of NR has done a high level investigation, ADM Richardson investigated the AF nuke issue several years ago when he was the Director, it also helps that the Director position is generally an 8 year posting so there is no or minimal political concerns for him. I do believe ADM Richardson is the first Director of NR to leave that position to go to another position.

Were there criminal charges after the single engine F-18 that flamed out over San Diego? Not against the pilot, I mean the leadership who ordered him to pass up North Island.

They were fired, but as far as I know, no criminal charges were filed.

Looks like she was offered a pretty sweet deal compared to what she could have rec'd, if the others get that deal I would bet they would plead out.

It doesn't look like she is being sent home, I guess she will be put somewhere to finish out her obligation then? We had an officer on my first ship that had some issue at his previous command (CGN), he left the USN after 5 years as a LTjg.

Definitely a "sweet" deal for the LTJG if you ask me. She'll likely finish her tour/assignment and then get her honorable discharge and separate.

I've never had a need to know... How does it work that you're NJP is finalized and then you also have a Court Marshall? Hoping @nittany can boil this down in something shorter than a page.

So she kills seven Sailors and loses 2.5 months of pay...wow.

I watched a LT (an LT?) lose $2K for six months and spend a month on restriction for way less than that...granted he fought it the whole way and never accepted blame, but damn...he was given the boot at 18+years as well...

I was surprised as well but she must had a good lawyer to get that type of a deal. I myself feel that anyone that gets charged with anything with the word "sexual" in it will have an uphill battle.
