Here's another bucket of cold water. If you take the sep and all the rules allow you to and you decide to go inthe Reserves you have to pay that money back before you get your Reserve retirement at age 60.

Who's to say what happens between now and then but that's the rule now.

How are you all being notified? I am what we called a "non-traditional student" in college. I am a full LT with 6+ years going through the FRS as a CAT I FRP. No one here seems to know what I'm talking about, and it's not something that most students would need to know anyway. Will I hear something from my CO, or NMCI email?

I feel safe in saying that I don't think that you are a target for VSP. In theory, as a CAT 1 FRS Stud, you have a long and viable career ahead of you. The message specifically states that it is for those who are not "competative". I.E. FNAEB'ed people no longer flying, people who fail to select for promotion, people who do not screen for DH. That's not you.

JO's leaving 1st tour with a P for their fitrep in this category?

Not necessarily. In theory you can take a competative shore tour and break out there. I know you've said before that you are a pretty Jr LT so in the Navies eyes, I'm thinking they see you still can do it.

**I NOT AN EXPERT, JUST DONE SOME RESEARCH!** Check w/your detailer for the official ino...

The navadmin talks about "aviation officers serving in a non-flying designator..." I wonder if stuff like the Pentagon or staff billets are verboten for shore tours now.
I suspect that is for those who fail to screen for DH, command, etc.

My XO put out the word today that no one in our command was elgible for VSP. He said on the aviation side, it was only for the no longer flying Aviation types (the FNAEB crowd) or those who have failed to select for O-4 or failed to screen for DH.

So there is what you have to shoot for if you want it next year!

Does it seem odd that we may be "rewarding" those who have screwed the pooch (FNAEB) while not allowing ok performers who may want to get out for family reasons or to pursue other options?

quick question

How (un)common are things like not making FNAEB's/not making 0-4/etc?

FNAEB's?

In my squadron we have had 3 in the last 2 years. Mind you, HSL has 50+ pilots per squadron, unlike VFA or HS.

I have been called to make a statement at 2. One was another squadrons H2P who had a hard time making HAC. I went thru flight school with him, and he was my copilot for a day during JTF Katrina. I thought he was a good pilot and was getting railroaded.

The other pilot was from my squadon, who was prone to doing really stupid stuff. I was witness to some said stuff.

You take an obligation to fly if you are no longer flying then it is a different story.

Once you pass the five year mark as an officer you are no longer a probationary officer so if the Navy wants to separate you they have to offer separation pay. If you are less than five years then you just go away. A guy washes out of flight school and he is told to go home. No problem. A fleet guy is FNAEB'd and told that his career is over but he has to stay in the Navy and fulfill his 8 year winging obligation, and oh by the way, he is not eligible to be promoted. Factor in having to leave your duty station early, sell your house, move your family, lose flight pay, etc and it isn't really that much of a 'reward'

A FNAEB may not have anything to do with being promoted. It's going to depend on the outcome-A-1/A-2/A-4 or B-1/B-2. The B's are bad (meaning no more flying) and depending on how your FITREP is written (trait average, P, MP or EP, etc), it could affect you. A bad FITREP, with or without a FNAEB, will hurt an officer just the same.

If the outcome is anything with a B you are redisgnated as a 130X which is not considered a career path and ergo not eligible for promotion.
