Way to go CNN!!! Just great...

Come on, guys. You can't read "vast left wing conspiracy" into every single news event. What is CNN supposed to do? Grovel and beg for our forgiveness?

Brett

No they shouldn't. Originally they apologized to both the President and the White House and I thought that it was over. Now this has become a media event of in itself. That CNN hasn't said "that's enough and it's over", to me is worse than the mistake itself. When Clinton was in office, I was told to "respect the office if not the man", here CNN and the others playing this up are disrespecting both. I guess that's OK though since after all it is only a Republican President in office.

Nope, but if they dont want to hold themselves accountable for their mistakes then I will excercise my power to change the channel. *click*

This is out of control. Just because CNN and the least common denominator out there in the public can't stop talking about it...:sleep_125

The chick left her mic on and went to the bathroom. She may or may not like the President, she may or may not work for a left leaning, Commie news agency...but she definitely had to go to the bathroom. Beyond that, who cares.

So it doesnt concern you that there is a leftist tint in the most powerful outlet for propaganda?

Sure it does, but I don't think this incident has anything to do with it. Further, the media in this country making serious stories out of stupid bs like this panders to the public's desire to entertain and does nothing to educate them...which lets not forget is the whole point of news media. That is something I have a much bigger problem with.

Jesus Christ! You're taking items from the Letterman Top Ten list - stuff written by the comedy writers at CBS, as though CNN used them as an excuse for their error. Reading comprehension, people. There's nothing wrong with having a little fun with the incident, and making a cameo appearance on the Letterman show does not constitute "going out on the talk show circuit." Talk about blowing things out of proportion.

That's where you're wrong. The point of the news media is to generate money by selling advertising. Don't fool yourself into thinking it has any more of an altruistic function than that.

That's what the news media does...not what they are supposed to do. I agree though, that is how they function. Maybe it is altruistic, but there are sources that do a better job of balancing that need to fund themselves with a duty to do something more than a tabloid.

Clearly you know that...you read the Economist.

I get most of my news analysis from The Economist these days.
-Break-
you cant seriously think Al Jazzeira is a legitimate news organization, they go beyond bias, they have blood on their hands many of the doctored photos of korans burning in both Iraq and Lebbanon have led to violent protests that have cost lives.

The Economist, good stuff. It gives a very intelligent and relatively balanced 'outsiders' view of US news.

I am in violent agreement with Brett here. It was a technical mistake, simple as that. Even the mighty Fox News makes mistakes now and then.....

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/04/01/entertainment/main684814.shtml (ironically, from CBS news)

The best was the video, shown on the Daily show (I cannot find a clip online) of Shep Smith talking and the producer can be heard yelling in the background "The Pope is dead! The Pope is dead!", pretty funny stuff. Maybe they need to beg forgiveness to the Pope.......:icon_roll

A good list of newspaper mistakes: http://www.regrettheerror.com/2005/12/crunks_05_the_y.html

Oh yeah, you might feel differently the next time you key the radio mike instead of the intercom one.......not so good times :( !

No A4's...I normally agree with you...and I know I'm gonna pay for this but...

Al Jazeera actually is not a half bad news agency. Unlike most American news outlets they actually still do some reporting instead of spinning press releases. Don't forget that they don't produce Bin Laden's tapes, they just air them....etc...

<standing by>:watching3

Al Arabiya, based in the UAE, is a much better Arab news channel (and has gotten even better since this story was done): http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3236654.stm

Yeah, that was an actual live feed from CNN.. I was watching the news off and on while waiting in a lobby so I was kinda glued to it (nothing else to do)! Apparently, the reporter, Kyra Phillips, was in the restroom (doing her thing) with another colleague. She was speaking of "compassionate people out there" (not sure if she was knocking "compassionate conservatism" or not), and somehow transitioned to her brother and "control freak" sister-in-law.. Read about her excuses that she offers for the mishap!
