For Hawkeyes, it takes about 1.5-3 years. Just depending on +/- wait times before classing up for each stage of training.

Just so you know, although Airwarriors is great for a lot of information pertaining to Naval Aviation, you might want to check out some of the other Navy websites too. The Chief of Naval Air Training website for instance will give you the information that I originally posted plus a map of the RAGs (and a neat pipeline figure too).

It's not that people don't want to answer your questions, but at the same time it's good to be as proactive as you can.

Have you visited the CNATRA website? There is a wealth of information about the training track. Click the TRAINING link on the left side, then click on the NFO wings.

Hey all, so I might not qualify for pilot application and might only qualify for NFO. I am a pilot right now, have all my ratings and love to be in control of an aircraft. Is there any upsides to being an NFO? Like is it even worth it for someone like me to go NFO?

Being an NFO is awesome, especially if you are in an NFO-centric community. I chose it first, and I have absolutely zero regrets. We have really difficult and important jobs just like the pilots, and these jobs are necessary to the mission success of the air wing, just like the pilots.
If and when you get to the fleet, you will see that any NFO vs pilot shit is just a joke, and deep down everyone sees what each person brings to the fight. There are many upsides to being an NFO...pm me if you want to know in detail what a Hawkeye NFO does.

With that being said, I do not think it is "worth it" for "someone like you" to become an NFO. You have to want it. If you truly don't want to earn NFO wings deep down, flight school will be very tough for you.
If you want to be a pilot, but you are NPQ for military aviation, don't apply for naval aviation. I wouldn't want someone like you in my ready room who thinks they are superior to the career itself because they were once a civilian pilot.

Y ou are asking us if applying for NFO is even worth your time because you are already a civilian pilot. Definately not "silly" that I thought you were acting superior. As if it is even worth it for you, as a civilian pilot, to grace us with your application. Asking winged NFO's if there are any upsides to our careers is pretty laughable in my opinion.

As to what an NFO does, thats a really broad question based on what community you are in. Search these forums and then ask specific questions.

Real simple. If all you want is to be at the actual controls of the aircraft, don't become an NFO. That's what pilots are for.
