What NRC considers competitive

Hi everyone. I was hoping to get an idea of how competitive I would be. I'm applying at a board later this summer with Intel as my first choice and SWO as my second. I previously applied in 2015 (after undergrad) with Intel as my 1st choice and SWO as my second. I wasn't selected for Intel and was told my packet wasn't considered for SWO due to it not being my first choice. Not sure if that would still be the case today. Here are my qualifications:

OAR: 59
MA in International Security GPA: 3.75
BA in Political Science GPA: 3.54

Quite a few extra curricular activities in college including college athletics.

LORs would likely be: O5 army intel officer, O5 submarine officer, O5 army non-intel officer.

Hi everyone, I was hoping to get an idea of how competitive my packet is. I've completed my application submission on 4/13/18 for the 5/18/18 Supply Board.

OAR: 50
ASTB: 4/5/6
GPA: 3.17

I graduated with Supply and Logistics Management (SLM) degree from Portland State University (PSU). My PSU GPA was a 3.53, however, during my associates degree from Portland Community College I received a 2.95 GPA so overall I ended with a 3.17.

I have LORs from a current Supply Officer (LT), a retired Admiral (CO of NAS Miramar), Dean of the PSU SLM program, and some from current and previous employers. Really hoping that I'm accepted although my GPA and OAR could be better.
Have you browsed previous SWO/Intel boards to compares your scores?

I haven't really looked into those threads that much because I only applied to the Suppo board and figured that they look at different candidates but I'll look at those boards for some comparison as well. Thank you

I submitted to SWO twice last year, the first time they were my second choice and they did still review my kit. I don't think that applies anymore. I do know that it has been repeated on here that the designator you put third will almost always be a PROREC-N for that same reason though. I think your kit looks good, maybe have your recruiter set up an Intel O6 appraisal to add some extra oomph to your kit, you never know. The extra curricular activities are good, any leadership positions like in those athletic teams, clubs or organizations, personal time team sports or anything?

I did find that thread awhile ago and the information on the excel spreadsheet was definitely very insightful, thank you. It seemed like there was a mix of people that were selected with similar scores/gpa or even a couple that had lower, but the average does look higher thank what my application will have this time around.

I probably should've expanded a little more in my original post. In my work experiences I've held supervisor/mentor positions as well as training positions for new employees. Outside of work experience I played a high level of hockey where I was the captain of my team for multiple years. After playing hockey I began to coach a team as well as give individual and small group lessons. I'm not sure if that is the kind of leadership/mentorship that the selection board thinks highly of though as most of hockey players were kids between the age of 5-15. Do you know if the selection board looks at each individual transcript or just your overall GPA? Thank you
That’ll set you right up to deal with some of our junior Sailors...

You can deal with young people and set them up to be successful. We need a lot of that.

Good morning,
I've spent a lot of time lurking on this page, and want to say in advance that it has helped me tremendously. I am submitting for SWO (package due June 29th) and would like some feedback on my stats:

GPA: 3.94 current (graduate in August)
OAR: 48
Currently an Operations Specialist, been active for 9 years
LORS: 1 retired O3, 1 Active O4, 2 civilian contractors who work with the White House
Interviews: all three from O6's.

An OR I was chatting with on the FB Future Mustangs page told me that the average OAR selected last board was 53, so I shouldn't even try, but I would like some additional input.

Thank you in advance!

My input is that guy was either fucking with you or is useless, apply, the OAR is a very minimal factor, your GPA is a major factor.

To put into perspective I had a girl with a 3.4 GPA and a 48 OAR score get selected for SWO.

Make sure your motivational statement is SWO-centric and you include lots of leadership/extracirricular activities in your APSR/application.

Yeah, I told him my command said I had a good shot with my OAR, GPA and the fact that I’m an operations specialist, plus they’re hurting for female swos. Essentially he told me I’d be perfect if only I wasn’t white, so yeahhhh.

But thank you for your response!

My command made sure I put in my special ability section that I’m from a ship board rate so I’m familiar with navigation, mo-boards, rules of the road and all of that good stuff, so hopefully it helps. Thanks for your response!

They don't even take race into account until after the selections so they can figure out what they can do in order to get more minorities to apply, so he is not too knowledgeable,
