What NRC considers competitive

it is all about "best qualified"

Roger, and sorry two more questions and I’ll leave you awesome people alone.

1) does listing my operation specialist past (navigation, moboards, rules of the road, etc) work in my favor? My command had me list it as a special ability since it’s very SWO-ish.

2) just from the little information I provided, my stats alone, do I look competitive?

It won't hurt to list them, your GPA is what is going to stand out.

You do look competitive, but since you are AD you have to have degree in hand (conferred) to apply.

Wait, I was told I could apply. The packages are due June 29th, but I’ll receive my degree before the board convenes in August. On the application it asks for intended grad date if you don’t have it already and to just submit a letter from your school showing your graduation date, and that you’ve already applied for graduation (the OCS help desk confirmed when I called to verify this). This whole time I’ve been told that as long as graduation is within 6 months of applying I’m good to go, since I’d have my degree before I shipped out.

Now I have more questions lol

I can’t speak directly to SWO, but I’m active duty and was recently selected for Intel WITHOUT a conferred degree by the due date. That being said, I had secure a waiver from the IWC OCM (Officer Community Manager). I sent her a letter of completion from my University stating exactly what I had remaining in my degree plan in order to have a conferred degree.

The OCM approved the waiver, however, made it clear that I would not receive a FINSEL letter nor ship date without a conferred degree. About 2 weeks later (prior to the board convening), I sent my conferred degree transcript, and was good to go! Considering how competitive INTEL is and was this cycle, I don’t believe it reflected negatively upon me.

Best of luck!

Thank you!

I got the same letter from my school. My last class ends July 22, but official graduation isn’t until August 15, but the board convenes August 6th so I’m hoping it won’t matter. I’d have my degree before I even find out the results.

you can try, I lost track of how many AD had their applications kicked back and had to wait a few months.

There is no such thing as "expunged" or "sealed" when it concerns the federal gov't, or companies that deal with the federal gov't, all that "expunged" means is that the courts cannot disclose to that information to normal people or companies.

aviation doesn't care about LOR's, they are pieces of paper that just get pushed to the side.

What items or background items do aviation boards look at for selecting SNA's?

anything that requires a waiver will be a red flag, how much of a red flag depends on what it is.

Are there positive things that can help an applicant, besides their score and gpa? I know you have said the board doesn't look at LOR's, are other parts of the application viewed or valued at?

That’s about it. You can offset a *waiver for pilot/NFO with a high ASTB.

* Depends on the severity of the waiver of course

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the site and discovered it when I was trying to pool resources to study for the ASTB-E. I'm trying to figure out if my scores are competitive. I just took the exam yesterday and received my scores today. I would appreciate any help! (Also, sorry for any mistakes! First time posting.)

Background: I work as a high school teacher. I was a cadet in the Army JROTC (4 yrs) and I now actively volunteer as an adult at my school's JROTC program as a chaperone/volunteer/mentor.
Age: 25
Degrees: B.A. English (3.5 GPA) and M.A. Linguistics (3.9 GPA)
OAR: 52
AQR/PFAR/FOFAR: 6/5/7
Choices: Pilot/NFO/SWO (My recruitor told me that my score isn't competitive for pilot but I'd still figured I'd apply and I'm happy with either pilot or NFO. I wanted to apply for both. I don't think I'm competitive for SWO but I figured I'd still aim for it.)
LOR: 1 administrator/supervisor (employer), 2 from O-5 (Army); one of the O-5 is the head of Army JROTC affairs for the entirety of my school district.

Your recruiter should have let you know that you are not qualified for SNA your PFAR score is below the minimum of 6 that is now required per the PA that RUFIO recently posted.
