Who determines whether someone is flying as pilot or Co Pilot?

Firt rule of VIPFER: you can only break even.

I've flown a bunch of VIPs, up to and including -2 for CNO. we always interpreted the rule as a URL FO/GO could take over and boards often included questions about flag doctors, surgeon generals, etc but the right answer was unless the FO/GO was URL they got 49% of the vote.

That said, ensuring the code isn't up ICS is a solid move. Some will request it ahead of time in which case there's not much you can do but re-read how the PVT switches work.

If you're flying a GO/FO and you're the AC, and they order you to do something you think is stupid, obey their orders at your peril. You can defend your decision at you FNAEB. They'll have to do the same.

I'm happy to give up most of the legacy "but this is how we did it..." statements (unless I'm with a CAT Other), but to me, it will be and shall always be "NET" and not "PVT."

I know @mad dog Dog knows what I'm putting down. For posterity!!!

Whatevs. You of all people should know the MADMAN is coming back....FOR FREEDOM!

And don't worry, I have several t-shirts to immortalize the liquor jugs...until they wear out. Then we'll need urgent NAVAIR/ @mad dog funding to resurrect. I think he's good for it.

I'm not working with H-60s anymore so I've lost the bubble on what 299 is working on these days.

My former Air Boss used to make all sorts of awesome USN RW propaganda art as a hobby. A lot of it had a heavy LAMPS flavor to it.

Are "NET" and "PVT" options on the comm box? It's been a while...my last flight in the -60B was in 1992.

Regarding the thing about authority of an embarked flag/general, it says "eligible for command at sea or in the field" (not shore), meaning Navy URL or Marine... whatever you guys call combat arms and anything else whose MOS can command, say, an infantry unit, artillery battery, etc. So not the supply general.

Anyone who has been through TBS is an unrestricted line officer and can command a provisional infantry unit, supply guys included.

Learn something new every day... Does anybody not go to TBS?

I wonder if this is one of those things that nobody thought all the way through. Nawww, couldn't be.

No. Even ISTs are required to go through TBS. WOs also do an abbreviated TBS course prior to pinning on. There is no escaping the power of the dark side of the force.

Recent former Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Amos didn't go to TBS

Obviously you need some recurrent training.

Yes, NET/PVT is the switch that you throw when you want to make the AW go away. Or your co-pilot, I guess, as well.

Royer.

I only remember a few things about the -60B:
  1. Sonobuoy and torp launch buttons next to each other, identical...and not guarded.
  2. 21,700.
  3. T700-401C.
  4. HMU ball valve.
  5. Beryllium lock pin pullers.
