Quaint ideas from yesteryear

No no, I meant the opposite. Someone who changes their opinions when presented with new information is being intellectually consistent. I think more people should reevaluate their previously held beliefs when presented with new information.

Gotcha. We agree. Thanks for being patient with my pedantic intellect complete misreading of your post. My bad. :)

Point of order... aren't shave chits a medical matter, vice one of grooming standards?
Yes, but perhaps the issue is that we are playing too fast and loose with them?

I'll admit, before this thread, I never really bothered to look into the no-shave chit policy. Always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt that if they had a beard, they had a no shave chit. Because I like to treat people like adults, and medical problems are between them and their doctor.

But apparently permanent no-shave chits aren't authorized and if there's no visible indication of rash / irritation (or the person has clearly shaped their beard via shaving to look stylish) then that no-shave chit either expired or shouldn't have been issued.

To be fair, I didn't know people were ever selected for promotion once in the IRR?
I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the IRR, but I have a friend who failed Nuke school despite not wanting to go in the first place, couldn't get re-designated, was re-assigned to the IRR, but somehow he's made O-4 and I see him occasionally on LinkedIn playing Navy. Maybe he entered the SELRES, but I am confident he was initially sent to the IRR.

It's fairly common to see someone passed over twice on AD and then get promoted in the IRR.

Have seen that in SELRES and TAR, just never saw it happen IRR. That's actually good to hear, we have a couple dudes who have their last swing at the bat for SELRES O-5 before affiliating this summer with IRR (not that it is their actual last swing, just is because they are leaving SELRES). I hope they have a chance there if they don't pick it up off this board (we gave them the paper that should get them there, but you never know, last year was bad for TSW at least).

Who said beards don't look professional?

"How come the sir can have a beard and I can't?"

"Well, he's 40 years old and his facial hair makes him look manly. You're 20 and your beard looks like stray ball hair stuck on your cheeks after a blowjob."

I've seen maybe 1 out of 50 folks who sport beards where I work look that professional, most just look like a bag 'o ass even even if they didn't have the beard. Seriously, having worked with Euros who can sport bears there is a BIG difference in how they look versus how our folks look with them.
