I submitted what was required. I’ve read of some applicants receiving LORs from IWC senior officers (or even flag officers and/or congressmen it seems?) but personally, I felt LORs from my direct managers (current and previous) would have more meaning since they actually oversee my work and performance. I felt several important things to communicate were: 1) why the Navy and why Intel (motivational statement and interviews), 2) clearly outlined how my civilian job/team have prepared the possibility of me being selected (tangible plans/preparation for when I will be away for training and/or possible deployments), and 3) Emphasized in my motivational statement and interviews that I’m not doing this because I’m looking for how the Navy can benefit me. I genuinely want to do this because I feel I can contribute to the Navy (relating my experience to the Navy’s mission).

That was my approach anyways. Be honest and open.
Congrats on the acceptance! This is good information, seeing people getting LORs from flag officers and congressmen made me think that perhaps I'm not doing enough ha-ha. Still an avenue I'm going to look into however. Anyone here have experience and/or were accepted or denied due to a medical waiver? Specifically to food allergens? I'm curious how much it skews ones chances. Preparing myself for disappointment after reading some stuff online...

Without knowing much details, if you’re non prior service you’re already ineligible.
I am .. 8 years prior service active duty USMC.

Similar to 44Willys, my panel was 10-10-10 and OIC 9. The only negative feedback received was from the OIC who said that, due to my age, I wouldn't be able to serve the Navy for a long time and that I'm not currently working in the intel community. I plan to serve 12-15 more years so I thought that was sufficient ROI. I can't do much about my civilian career at this point either.

Happy to go direct with anyone who might be able to offer some help.

Wild, I was 10/10/10//9 as well… seeing a lot of folks with perfect appraisals denied this cycle.

I was selected this board (1825), typically a pretty private individual, but this community was incredibly helpful for me so paying it forward.

Interviews: 10/10/10/10

5.5 YOE all in digital forensics, security operations & threat intelligence
no prior military experience, this was my first time applying
1825 was my first choice, 1885 my second

Undergrad in IT from a large SEC school
MS in Computer Science from top public university in the US
MBA from same top public university in the US

Letters of Rec: Current CAPT in the navy reserves, family member that was retired navy, and professor that was retired air force.

Happy to answer any questions publicly or privately.

edit: I have a few SANS certifications

Does anyone have the most up to date pipeline for 1835? I’ve heard of possible changes
Training pipeline, you mean? If so: current gouge is that RNIOBC will go to a single, 7-week course. You'll earn your basic INTEL qual at the end of it. IWOBC will be a 3-week course at Great Lakes, and you'll earn your IWO qual there and thus will be fully qualified.

I got the call Tuesday that I was selected for 1815 and wanted to share my background in hopes that someone will find it helpful or provide a sanity check. This was my first time applying.

I am a current Navy reservist, having done five years active duty and 3 years in the reserves. I’ve been a Hospital Corpsman the entire time.

For my bachelors I majored in Digital Forensics with a minor in cybersecurity and had a 4.0 GPA.

For my masters I am in my last semester with an expected graduation of April 2025. I am in UC Berkeley’s Master of Information and Cybersecurity (MICS) which is entirely online, but reputable. I had a 3.9 GPA at the time of applying.

Another quick note about education, I did not take a physics class or any calculus. However I have taken a discrete mathematics/cryptography course during my masters program.

For my civilian career I am an Information System Security Officer government contractor (not for the DoD). I have been in the role since June 2024, so less than a year from my selection. Prior to that I had roughly two years of experience doing GRC in the private sector (CMMC consulting for members of the DIB). Therefore, a little more than 2.5 years of experience doing cyber adjacent work, the rest of my professional experience is as a Pharmacy tech in the Navy and a couple small pharmacies while in college. I have several certifications, such as Security+, CySA+, eJPT, and AWS Cloud Practitioner. I now have my CISSP-A but that was not included in my application.

As for letters of recommendations, I had 1 from a retired navy pharmacist (LCDR), 1 from my undergrad professor who worked at the NSA for 10 years, 1 from my work supervisor (retired Navy IT Chief), and 1 from my unit OIC (LCDR in the medical corp).

As for my interviews I’m not sure on score, I didn’t have a chance to ask but my recruiter told me I interviewed “well”. I studied for two weeks prior to my OIC and panel interview reviewing current events (great power competition) and potential interview questions. I cannot recommend enough studying for your interviews.

Just wanted to share as I am relatively young, prior enlisted in a non-IWC capacity, and have minimal technical experience and was selected my first time applying in case anyone is in a similar boat. Feel free to reach out with any questions or advice!

Are folks really earning IWO quals at the conclusion of the 3 week IWOBC? I know it can be done, but whether it is wise to do so if another story. When I was at IWOBC almost a decade ago now, this was certainly not an option offered. They gave us PQS line item credit (for the 100 series questions only), but it was still up to our gaining commands whether to accept them. While the IWO pin isn't exactly the most demanding of all of the warfare pins (it's not exactly a cakewalk either if done correctly), that seems like a short timeframe especially to learn/truly demonstrate appreciation of what it takes to wear the pin. More so writing out of curiosity on this end. If the system is working fine, then great.

I'm honestly not sure - that was the gouge I heard, and it was 2nd or even 3rd-hand when I heard it. But I've heard it from multiple people across multiple channels, so at least some of it is probably true.

Frankly, I think combining RNIOBC Phases I and II together is long overdue, but that's my $0.02.

No, they are trying to get it at the end of RNIOBC. I don't think its realistic to do that either. From a knowledge perspective, you probably don't know whats going on with the other designators in the IWC to earn a pin. But its not like it was back in HI. Things are a bit different now, especially for the reserves.

Copy all and thanks. Hope you're doing well, bud! I'm still out here in HI (made my way back out here after a tour away). Feel free to drop me a PM if you need anything.

Hey everyone, just curious since I stumbled onto this thread and saw people got notified. I haven't heard anything from my recruiter. Do results come in batches or is he just maybe out on leave and doesn't know? I tried calling him and he's very good about returning my calls but when he doesn't, he's usually on leave.

Surprise! Recruiters can go on leave too. Send an email, they probably will have an OoO if they’re out.

Congrats from a fellow UC Berkeley I-School student also graduating Spring 2025! I am a current MIDS student and was just selected for 1835 on my first attempt as well. Our backgrounds are quite different, but it’s great to see another I-School student finding success in the process. Best of luck as you transition into the IWC!

He got ahold of me and said my package wasn't even reviewed just rejected immediately due to not having 2 waivers. I submitted hand written statements for the two waivers in question. Now I'm wondering if he even submitted the waivers or if they weren't followed up on. I asked multiple times if we were good to submit and we went line by line in the checklist. Apparently not...
