The Navy does not either. I've heard from those with prior flight experience that when they get to pensacola the Navy has to help them unlearn civilian flying habits.
I second this, I spoke with a Navy Instructor Pilot about a month ago and asked if prior flight experience helps and he briefly stated that the only thing that helps those with prior flight experience is comfortability on the radios. The Navy likes to train students their way and not allow bad habits to form.

Does anyone know what it’ll look like on a package if you attend a college that has a pass fail system instead of GPA? I’ve been told all you need is the degree by people in my chain of command who went through OCS, but I’m curious if anyone here has done it, trying to get more POVs. (The college is accredited)

You need to have a GPA listed, once you graduate the schools registrar should be able to provide a letter giving you the equivalent GPA. In most cases a P/F system will give you a 3.0 GPA.

Well I finally took the ASTB and the sense of relief is palpable:
OAR: 65
AQR: 9
PFAR: 9
FOFAR: 8
LPSS: 80
I'm not gonna write some long post because I really have nothing new to add to the wealth of info on this thread already. All I have are a couple of tips:
1) For the OAR, Use the Gomez Drive. run through every worksheet and practice test. For every question you get wrong, deep dive into YouTube to learn how to do it. There's a math ASTB book that is really good too if you need that extra help refreshing on the basics like I did since the last math class I took was 8 years ago in high school. Also I got matrix multiplication and logarithm questions.
2) For the AVIT: If you've got the time/money I personally suggest just signing up for an online ground school. Ive been working on my PPL and everything I knew on that section (outside of marine info) came from studying for the FAA written exam. its definitely not cheap, I think king's is a couple hundred dollars. YOU CAN learn everything you need from the PHAK, but personally I can't absorb well from just reading alone so the video explainers helped me tremendously.
3) for the PBM,I can't stress it enough.Buy the ASTB test prep app. its like 30 bucks but worth every penny. Buy the x52 joystick used and practice practice practice. I would run a couple tests everyday for a couple weeks leading up to date of the test. The best way to get good at multitasking like the test requires is to absolutely master each input individually. Start with just throttle until it's mind numbingly easy, do the same for stick, dichotic listening, and emergency procedures. Then slowly combine each part and practice until that feels easy as well.
*That's all i've got really the test felt like it was kicking my ass. I was shocked to have gotten the score I got. I believe with this and my GPA I qualify for immediate select but we'll see if I make the Jan 17 deadline to apply. Thanks everyone on this forum it's been a tremendous help!

Completed my first exam attempt, here are the results:
Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR): 55
Academic Qualifications Rating (AQR): 7
Pilot Flight Aptitude Rating (PFAR): 7
Flight Officer Flight Aptitude Rating (FOFAR): 7
Exam was actually more stressful than needed, the software repeatedly crashed and an administrator had to come in every time to reset the computer. Curious if others have experienced that problem, I have heard the exam usually takes 2-3 hours; took me a little over 4 hours due to the interruptions. I do not intend to test again, heading for SNA - have yet to go to MEPS.

Things that worked for me:
ASTB Prep App (by Alex Hastings) - Yes, I know it is $30, but absolutely purchase this. I found the Math section exam material on this app to be more accurate to what I saw in the Barrons book (5th Edition). Use the UAV & terrain identification section practice every single day - these two are ESSENTIAL. If you have the time, go through the whole syllabus. A lot of great study material there.
Barrons - great supplemental material, and includes a couple practice exams. If money is tight, get creative and utilize as many free resources as you can. If not, worth the money. ($26 - https://a.co/d/auSWqru)
Jantzen's Sim - use the remade (https://jomo1-1.github.io/ASTB-remade/) old: (https://jantzenx.github.io/ASTB/). Practice, practice, practice. The real thing was uncomfortable, get used to the feeling. I did not purchase an X52, I instead bought a used Logitech X3D joystick for $22 and mapped it as a mouse with JoyToKey software (https://joytokey.net/en/). TBH, I do not think it is essential, using a mouse should suffice. Main focus should be on the dichotic listening as you practice both the throttle and stick (or keyboard + mouse).
Use the CRAM flashcards. Every, single, day. You should see all 415 cards multiple times - I would try to get at least 100 cards reviewed per sitting.
Reddit post has a lot of great content to study as well as practice exams: Kieno Thomas - a wide variety of great ASTB study material. I would specifically listen to his ASTB oral reviews while in the car. (https://www.youtube.com/@kienothomas)

The exam:
-Show up early. You will have butterflies in your stomach, showing up with plenty of time is something you can absolutely control.
-Bring a snack and a water (I brought a V8 energy too) for the break after the OAR. During the break, do not just sit around and wait. Absolutely do not skip the break. Get up, use the restroom if you need to. Stretch, do some pushups. Getting my mind away from the test momentarily did wonders to help me reset and prepare to resume.
-Pace yourself. If you find yourself on a question to which you cannot answer, use every strategy available to deduct other answers as improbable and make an educated guess. The exam is timed, and they do not indicate how many questions you have left. I started tallying the questions I have completed, but pretty quickly stopped as I wanted to focus more on the questions themselves.
-Exams can end early. I do think the math section ended early for me.
-Be familiar with your basic formulas. Yes, they are readily available on the Math. But I did not see them on the Mech section.

I do not intend to disclose specifics of any question I saw, as there is a confidentiality agreement to the exam material. But if there is anything else with preparation that I can help anyone with, I would be happy to help.
Great post! Thanks for the insight here. The ASTB prep app by Alex Hastings looks legit - I’ll definitely pony up the $30 for that.

You mentioned “CRAM” flashcards and all 415 of them. Are these in the Hastings app or located elsewhere?

The app is 100% worth it, the flash cards are on Google. Here is the link for ya https://www.cram.com/flashcards/sean-astb-anit-review-14372252
Here are some very good mechanical cards too: https://www.proprofsflashcards.com/story.php?title=astb-mechanical-comprehension-test

Just though I should mention that Chatgpt has been very useful at explaining math concepts. I have been going through the Gomez math worksheets. Whenever I didn't understand an answer I would put the problem from the worksheet into Chatgpt. It would give me a very detailed explanation. I even pinpoint what I don't understand about how Chatgpt completed a problem and the website provides me with detailed yet simple to follow explanations. Just thought I share since I never fully understood math until the website explained what I would feel dumb for asking in math class.

Thank you! Also, looking at buying a used x52 joystick setup to mimic that portion of the test. It’s been about a year since I initially took the test so I’m trying to get back into a regular self study routine. Got a 58 on the OAR but need to get 7-8’s across the board for the ASTB-E portion to have a serious shot.

How long did it take to get your package through to boards and head out to OCS? Just trying to get a firmer grasp on my timeline if I shoot for the late February boards for SNA.

Your post has been inspirational and super helpful. Thanks again @JFinley. All ears for any other pointers or general suggestions you may have… Cheers!!
