My primary MOS was 6216, I worked on engines, props, and fuel systems of C 130s.

I was an 0331 (infantry machinegunner). Absolutely nothing to do with aviation.

Also, “Longtime lurker, first time poster”. I’ll add my information to the spreadsheet assuming I made the board. I submitted on time, but may have been kicked back the the August 1 board.

Absolutely under no circumstances should you enlist first. You have to get CO recommendation for your package and your chief mess will shut it down cause they need to get “their time” out of you first.

You had some bad leadership going on there like I did.

With you 100%, except finish your degree while you’re in. It essentially allows you to lose 0 time in the long term for retirement!

Some of us worked 18 + hours a day. There was no way I could do college but if some of yall can, do it!

I got lucky and got ATC when joining the Navy, but I’ve also been on 2 ships and have spent over 3 1/2 years total time at sea, so completing my degree was very challenging. I’ve also had both situations where I’ve had a terrible chain of command who actually provided barriers to completing an application and a chain of command, the one I am now, where they have helped tremendously. It’s a roll of the dice but in my situation I don’t regret being enlisted first.
