This actually reminds me of when some on this forum were lamenting how low Obama bowed to a certain foreign leader in 2009.

Back then, I noted that Obama wasn't the first president to do this, and so the outrage expressed in the thread was a bit off base. I can't really find a precedent of past presidents saluting foreign military officials, but there are so many outrageous things this POTUS has done that violating some supposed White House protocol just barely registers for me.
I do get all that history of Obama bowing to the Queen and gaffes like him continually calling corpsmen "corpse men", and thought does he have anyone that can pull him aside and say "hey, sir, it's actually..."? The fact that this staff allowed 47 to stand in front of a conga line of Saudi military officers and him returning salutes is...astonishing though imo.

I'm thinking that the WH protocol office is one of the most frustrating places to work in DC right now.

Fair enough...now I need @sevenhelmet to weigh in though, bc you put my post under his header. 😄

I’ll bite. ;)

I agree with you and Mos. Things are so far gone now, the salutes and sycophantic BS towards other authoritarian leaders hardly registers to me either. Trump uses the country’s highest office as a bully pulpit and a lever for personal gain. Those are the two pillars of his existence.

As for the Qatari plane, people do care. It’s not only illegal, it’s incredibly wasteful of our tax dollars, and unlikely to result in a new AF1 any faster than, say, plussing up the funding for the Boeing one by 50% of what it would cost to properly retrofit that bird.

This is proof that DOGE is full of shit. They should be all over this.

I don’t think calling in a DOGE-strike could stop it now

They accepted it

The United States has accepted a 747 jetliner as a gift from the government of Qatar, and the Air Force has been asked to figure out a way to rapidly upgrade it so it can be put into use as a new Air Force One for President Trump, a Defense Department spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

Right up there with “Russia if you’re listening…” for brazen flouting.

I'm guessing they'll start with a new paint job, new upholstery, and add some gold fixtures in the cabin. Then velcro on a bunch of antennas and shit, so it'll be ready for the transition to the "presidential library" in 2029.

"The Boss gladly invites you to a prayer service during work hours where his personal pastor might speak in tongues, possibly handle some snakes, and praise POTUS as "sovereignly appointed". Strictly voluntary though. It will be monthly." /s

Nothing they do really shocks me anymore...Qatar jet...Golden Dome, whatever
Where is the barf emoji?
It's bad enough we have prayers at official functions. Do everyone a favor and leave your church stuff at church.
