Listen to his protocol team, whose business it is to help their principals navigate these exact kinds of situations.
The whole POTUS saluting thing is silly and needs to stop. Before Reagan no one did it, not even Eisenhower, who had the greatest global military exposure. Regan got it started and was even told by his staff to cut it out. It has led to equally silly and artificial “disrespect” stories about just about every POTUS. We had the Clinton cupped-hand salute, the W. Bush salute while he was carrying his dog, the Obama coffee salute, Biden saluting Meloni at the G7 and now we have Trump ready to salute everyone wearing a hat.

The POTUS should not salute. Not the Marine at the helicopter, not the AF colonels gathered at Andrews, and not when boarding a ship or walking past an honor guard. POTUS is a civilian (even if former military) and should act as such.

I figure it is the same as when you're driving through the gate and you're not wearing a cover. The gate guard (if they're not a contractor) is going to salute you. A simple, "Good morning, thank you" and/or a wave or a nod in response is appropriate.

Where is the barf emoji?
It's bad enough we have prayers at official functions. Do everyone a favor and leave your church stuff at church.
Reminds me of one of my favorite Christopher Hitchens' lines:
... I hope I’ve made it clear that I’m perfectly happy for people to have these toys and to play with them at home, and hug them to themselves and share them with other people who come round and play with the toys. That’s, absolutely fine. They are not to make me play with these toys. I will not play with the toys. Don’t bring the toys to my house. Don’t say my children must play with these toys.

Meh, as long as he includes a variety of religious leaders and not just his own flavor of Christianity going forward, since apparently this is going to be a recurring thing, then whatever. It’s like the variety of faiths getting their turn at evening prayer on the boat. I would like to hear his pastors thoughts about his parishioner knocking up his producer outside of marriage though.

That reminds me of transiting back to homeport from the ME with little flight ops going on, and the nightly devotion over the 1MC by the ship's Chap (started with 'Good evening Saywahs and Mawines...')...it interrupted our tenth viewing of 'Old School' on ship's TV. A collective 'FUCK' could be heard from every stateroom.

Yeah, leave that shit for those that want to hear it.

Pro tip: if you open up your stateroom 1MC speaker and move the transformer jumper to the largest resistance setting, you barely hear anything….😉

Uff, this is certainly important 🥱

"Compared to the 747-200, the 747-8 emits around 16 less tons of carbon per trip."

This is a poke in the eye to Boeing. We did an extensive mission assurance assessment on NAOC recently, updating this particular airframe to meet current AF and DoD NC3 / C5I requirements is not a big deal. AF and Boeing requirements creep is.

The DIB could make this happen in a finger snap . . . .

OK, good steward of taxpayers' dollars guy... Riddle me this: I don't think it's a question of whether it is possible to modify the aircraft and get it up to AF1 standards. The question is what will it cost to do so, and whether that is a good use of taxpayer dollars, given the current AF1 aircraft are meeting mission, and their replacements - albeit delayed - will arrive in time so that there's no mission impact.

Why should any of us, as taxpayers, be contributing to this excess capacity, particularly when it's going to be given to Trump when he leaves office. Shouldn't Trump reimburse the Federal government for every dollar spent on modifying that aircraft? I presume that outrages you as much as it does me.

1000%

I have friends who lost their jobs because of DOGE. But their annual salary is pennies on the dollar compared to a Maralago golf trip for POTUS.

This. If it remained with the DOD after he left office I could potentially get behind this, but the insane costs to AF1 it out for such a short time is mind boggling.

ETA I kinda want to visit the Reagan library now to see that AF1, which, point of order, was in service between 1973-2001.

There could also possibly be listening devices or malware on the plane, as it's been sitting in a foreign country for more than a decade.

That thing has to crawling with bugs.
