(VRN#100207-M-6001S-006.JPG) A morning sun glares through a pack of clouds as AV-8B Harriers and MV-22 Ospreys from Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 162 (Reinforced), 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, quietly rest aboard USS Nassau sailing through the Caribbean Sea Feb. 7. The 24th MEU has been assisting in relief efforts in Haiti sinc late last month and went out to sea for a resupply. 24th MEU is one most expedient and self-sustaining units capable of supporting an array of missions from humanitarian aid to combat operations. (VRN# 100127-M-6001S-573.JPG) 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit Marines and Sailors evaluate the area of Corail, Haiti using assessment teams Jan. 27 to determine the amount of damage caused by Haiti's recent earthquake that occurred Jan. 12. Assessment teams gathered information on the amount of medical, food, and infrastructure repair needed during the MEU's humanitarian assistance mission in Haiti. 24th MEU remains to be among the most flexible and expedient units to support a variety of humanitarian assistance as one of the Marine Corps' rapid response force. A great picture of loading a vehicle/weapon combo aboard a V-22:

Here's a division coming into GITMO while I was sitting on deck. We were told to expedite getting to the pad so they could land. They then took another 2+ minutes to actually get off the runway. I'm not sure if tower really knew what to do w/ them, but it worked out in the end.

Someone in the know: How different is the ITV from a 6x6 Polaris Ranger? I heard internet rumor (yeah, I know, it's on the internet so it must be true) that the ITV costs over 100k, compared to said Ranger which costs 12k, what else are we getting?

Quite a bit since it's a variation of an American Growler product, not Polaris

Here's an article that has a bit more detail than rumors that steered you to a Ranger. I have a lot time in Rangers and the ITV is decidedly not a Ranger derivation, but the USMC ITV is 100K+ and the baseline commercial product from American Growler is leass than $10K. Check out pricing on a street Hummer vs a HMMWV. Militarizing a commercial product does make it more costly for any number of reasons (sometines you need to make sure you're using apples and orange figures for comparison).

Interesting that is has Jeep DNA. I didn't mean to imply that the ITV started life as a Ranger, just that it looks to be about the same. I guess it was just a bit of sticker shock looking at an order of magnitude level price increase. I realize militarizing costs extra, but that's a lot of moola.

Look at any of the SPECOPS vehicles in theatre with commercial DNA. They end up being custom builds almost like NASCAR makeovers. I've seen some much more expensive than that.

Our Ranger runabout is pretty stock and runs almost like a golf cart. Pretty handy, but not built for the true abuse a ITV is subjected to day to day.
