Applying to Jan board 2013

JGD

Level 32 Red Mage
Oh the joys of ochem, I was a ChemE major. Still have nightmares about nucleophilic aromatic substitutions...
Fellow ChemE! I'm a ChemE too. I finished in May 2012 but took a different route and going into Supply. If you don't mind me asking, what do you plan to do/are doing in the Navy?

NavyOffRec,
I've been trying to find info on this everywhere, then it just occurred to me that you might know: I'm a current reservist, and I have applied for this board through an officer recruiter. I feel I have a pretty strong package. However, I obviously cannot know if I will be selected, or if so, when I will class up. So in the interest of being employed and having a back up plan, I am currently processing for the Active Duty Definite Recall program to be an RDC. If I am selected for OCS, will being on AD interfere with getting orders to OCS, since I applied from civilian side? Or do OCS orders automatically take precedence?

Is there any instruction pertaining to this? I will never again make any assumptions regarding the Navy.

Also I just want to say, I have never met you personally, but your postings have given me more guidance than my own recruiter whom I have met many times. Thanks for putting in the extra time and not just clocking out at 1600.

In general when a person is selected for OCS it puts anything else on hold, so if you get professionally recommended they should stop any other actions that lead to AD, but I cannot say for 100%

NavyOffRec,

If you were applying for Supply, Intel, and SWO, when would you send in your application? Thanks!

The board schedule has the time that they are accepting application, I do believe now all are open though.

The interesting part is generally both Intel and Supply pick those that list their designator as a first choice, so whatever you put second you are pretty much eliminating yourself from consideration, so you should put number one the designator you have the best shot at, by the numbers without knowing anything about your degree that would be Supply.

So when how would we need to have our packages in for the Jan SWO board? I asked my OR but he hasn't even heard anything about there being a board.

I'd be very surprised if we didn't after all the back and forth about sending people in January and releasing results early.
Remember it's the holidays... Perhaps NavyOffRec can offer some insight but I think they'll either take their sweet time or rush the board; I'm thinking it'll be the former. Anyways, point is we'll know in 2-6 weeks according to what's been said in this and past topics. Enjoy the season because the wait is almost over, whether good or bad.
