I remember there was a lot of handwringing over a 'spike' in mishap rates about 15 or so years ago after a string of accidents in a single year, but it turned out to largely be an anomaly. When the overall mishap rate rises above the recent historical norms for a sustained period, more than a year or two, that is when I'll start to worry. Until then folks are just speculating.
