Europe under extreme duress

I know what MICE is. You realize that anyone working in politics is going to be in it for I, E, and M, right? Nobody works in politics if they don’t believe in the I part.
The “I” in MICE doesn’t mean you have *any* ideology, it means you have an ideology that can be exploited by an adversary.

Well, it’s better than the constant “I nuke you!” threats, but it is also a clear escalation. Proxy wars are about to get a lot dirtier.
I’m not sure how escalatory it is. Seems like it could be proportional to the Nord Stream undersea gas pipeline attack. Attibution for Nord Stream has not been established yet, to my knowledge, although Russia’s gas industry was harmed by the pipeline destruction.

Also, attribution for the undersea comms cables severance has not yet been established per that news article.

It's probably worth noting that submarine cables get cut or disrupted frequently. Not saying it's the case here, assuming there's evidence of sabotage that hasn't been made public yet, but it's something that would probably be relatively easy to have plausible deniability on.

Payback for Nord Stream?

It could be just the Russians being themselves, assholes. They don't need an excuse.

The Nord Stream sabotage didn't harm the Russian gas industry, it wasn't used and likely won't be for a long time. IIRC the only reason there was gas in the pipeline was to help maintain it, not for delivery.

I am simply parroting the language of the foreign ministers os France, Britain, Poland, Italy, Spain, and Germany as noted in the article… “Moscow’s escalating hybrid activities against NATO and EU countries are also unprecedented in their variety and scale, creating significant security risks,”

What causes them to get cut and disrupted?
