When that happens, the 80% of people who get their news from the internet and not TV decide to google 'search it up' on the internet

I think you just, potentially unwittingly, highlighted what has gone wrong in our society. Idiots who think that an internet search equates to fact. And that is the treasure trove that we handed over to the SVR and every other bad actor out there.

Honestly, I think it's mostly TikTok and Joe Rogan podcasts these days.

Interesting that MMA bro hasn't responded to a former Ukrainian boxing champ who stayed in country.

I mentioned TikTok bc what appears to have happened in Romania, our NATO ally. A pro-Russian nobody ran as an independent. He was initially polling at 2%, then shocked everyone to likely be their next president (we'll see how it plays out in the 2nd round). The EU parliament has just summoned TikTok's CEO to a hearing about WTF are you guys doing?

Interesting times.

The problem is DC is run by a bunch of 60+ year old men with an inflated sense of importance who pearl clutch over adopting any sort of change, because change threatens the fundamental framework of business rules that they leveraged to success. Bill Clinton famously remarked that he sent one email during his entire Presidency just to test the system ... he held office until the year 2000. In a government that leads adopting technology, Ronald Reagan should have been using email.

We've had business leaders making presentations with graphics since the 00s and companies using social media on a mass scale to advertise since 2009ish. Yet DC political strategists still put politicians on a podium in front of a flag wearing a suit looking like it was tailored in the 1980s, broadcast on a TV network that no one under 50 years old is watching. It's no wonder that every establishment candidate going back to 2008 has gotten trounced in Presidential elections with the exception of Biden in 2020.

You'd think that a country with a $6T federal budget could figure out how to adopt its PR strategies. Instead it gets smacked upside the head and shocked Pikachu face when the way people consume information changes with information technology development.

Russian propaganda accounts for a small fraction of viewed content in the US. The vast majority of poor messaging and misleading information is our own fault. Dr. Fauci isn't a Russian or Chinese spy, he's a self-serving American. It's not Russia's fault that you get endless websites of "hurrr, Bush confuses Ukraine with Iraq in a huge gaff" when you use Google to search for US policy statements of substance from his administration.

When I have to use a British website to get an accurate assessment of why Russia is using North Korean troops in Ukraine and what their grand strategy is, the US media reporting is broken.

This is a disingenuous argument.

Yes, if you dig through government documents you can find the U.S. policy going back over a decade. I don't think that's what robav8er was referring to.

The White House has a press secretary. The DoD has a public affairs department. Wouldn't it be great if they engaged U.S. mainstream media (MSM) with actual facts instead of waiting for them to release headlines about Russia "claiming" that Ukraine had bioweapons?....This is not a success of Russian propaganda. It's a failure of U.S. government media relations.

That is exactly what they did. If you weren't paying attention to it, that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

And to the extent that Russia invaded Ukraine over bioweapons...no, that's US propaganda. Russia invaded Ukraine because it a) believes Ukraine is Russian and b) because Ukraine was negotiating alliances with the west. The presence of bio-research facilities is merely a piece of substantiating evidence of that alliance.

UKR drastically lowering age for conscription to 18 YO.

It's weird to me that the draft age wasn't already 18. They're fighting an existential threat to their nation. I don't know what the upper bounds of their draft age limit are.

Meanwhile RUS is throwing drunk 60 yr olds and unsuspecting foreign conscripts into the meat grinder...

Support for the Vietnam War plummeted and the anti war movement got kicked into overdrive when college draft deferments began to evaporate and young more affluent( could afford college) people were being sent off to war. I wouldn't be surprised if the draft age is as high as it is to keep from inciting young people to oppose the war, and prevent pictures of peach fuzzed faces dead on the battlefield eroding support

I know Wikipedia isn't an overall authoritative source, but this article does a good job of explaining how the 'bioweapons labs" Russian propaganda seeped into some US right-wing media (and who those characters are)

You can't say I'm just explaining disinformation that RUS used as a pretense for invasion...then throw up your hands at the end, and say who knows?, bc you also believe in some dubious claims about Fa

It’s more about demographics than anything else. In the 90s to early 2000s (post fall of USSR) birth rates plummeted.

I agree it’s crazy town that the draft age has been so high, but they sort of wanted to save that generation.

I get your point. I'd just counter that Vietnam wasn't a war for national survival, while this one is.
