I have wondered for years why we don't blockade or screen traffic into Yemen more often to stem the tide of weapons into the country.
Good question. Abstract below from >>>this link<<<

"The law of Blockade is derived from customary law that developed during the height of eighteenth and nineteenth century naval warfare. As a method of warfare that has the goal of crippling an adversary’s economy, blockade can devastate not only the military apparatus of a country, but the civilian population as well. In this manner, it is a method of warfare that cannot distinguish in its effects between civilians and military objectives.

The existing IHL framework governing blockade does not provide satisfactory protections to the civilian populations of affected states. Starvation, malnutrition and disease are the consequential effects of a lengthy and effective blockade.

A new approach to the law of blockade is required, one that will codify contemporary practice and obligate those engaging in blockade operations to ensure that humanitarian relief cannot be denied to affected civilian populations."

Please stop. This is late stage Clancy drivel imagined by D list writers.
I’m ok with that as long as it isn’t Stavridis’ “American all stupid…China so smart” crap. Although I keep wondering which devil dog here on AW is gong to fly the suicide mission in a stripped down F-18.

Considering he was an admiral, does he do that more for marketing or he doesn't know a whole lot...?

I think he is intelligent and capable…but wrong on certain matters - at least as he presents them publicly.

Most humans are wrong as much as they are right, intelligent or not (which is not even an original thought of my own). I think this phenomenon is amplified for many flag officers, who have been emboldened by prior success in a promotion system that is effectively an echo chamber. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

I think the fictional part of the ending there was just to wrap up the story. In the afterword of the book (err... the audiobook at least), he states the whole point of the book isn't any sort of tactical scenario but a warning to Americans about the Chinese threat. He also isn't advocating necessarily for military action - but a strong military supporting a smart, well-funded diplomatic corps as far as I can tell - to avoid war, but be prepared for it.
