Kudos!

Go pass that thing, and I'll take the baton. I should be able to crank out a sub-10 run (at 4800 feet :icon_rage), 90-120 curl-ups, and... 30 pushups.

I've been focusing on upper-body growth the past few months, which has worked, but I haven't been doing many pushups, and right now my PU ability is worse that it was 5 months ago. :(

m26 ...for me improving on pushups was the easiest, hopefully that is somewhat encouraging (and i have always had a weak upperbody)

little update, Temps where i lived just dropped into the low 40's so This passed week I have been running on a treadmill (which I had never done before). Well, I pretty much hit my target i did the 1.5 in 13:00 today, I know the treadmill is a bit easier but knowing that i can make the run makes a huge difference mentally. I plan on running 2 more times before my prt on tues so I will definitely get my times down probably another 20 sec. or so.

When using the treadmill be sure to set the incline to at least 1

Well let's hope. I've been working on this since February, so I'll be pretty discouraged if I can't pull it off...

I just took my PRT yesterday and I around where I thought I'd be for everything except sit-ups. I passed everything but the sit-ups just fried my legs and I hit a wall a couple after the good-low threshold. I'll have to work on that. I definitely want to have some padding between the minimum standards and my actual performance before taking the PRT as OCS.

Hotwings: When I started running a few years ago, the biggest thing that helped increase my speed was finding hills to run up and down. Like everything with running, you'll want to ease your way into this. Keep working on it and you'll get where you need to go. Hopefully it all works out! Good luck!

Got the call today...NPQ due to color blindness. I'm gonna try to find a local eye doc to confirm (for my peace of mind, and to see what will come of it).

So it's back to the drawing board for me. I'm going for Supply it looks like.

Good luck Hotwings, run your mother-f'ing ass off!

ok so this should be the last of my post as I took the prt today and passed good low on everything (not great for some, but I had to work my ass off to get to this point), and my run, which a lot of this was about, was a 12:34 which i believe is about 3 minutes of my run from a month ago......hopefully this is some encouragement for other former couch potatoes like myself

Congrats man. Keep up the routine as it doesn't take much down time to drop off on your time. Truly am glad to hear you passed and I'm sure it's a huge burden off your chest as well.

Just run your a$$ off. While running and when it hurts, just keep in mind that this is for all the marbles. This is the whole shooting match, the pain is in your mind. When your body is truly finished it will just turn off and you would pass out. If you're still upright, you have more. If you have to yak up your McD's breakfast when your finished then so be it. Yak everywhere if necessary. As prior E if I didn't run hard enough to induce a yak at the end then I didn't truly run my fastest. It's a one time thing, push it out, suck it up, and run like hell. If you don't then 30 minutes later when you're not blowing snot bubbles you will regret not having pushed it out.

Please ignore the above in the case of shin splints... :icon_rage

Pushing through hurt is one thing. Knowing when you're injured is important too...

Maybe... but that is only the first of many... MANY PRT's you will do throughout your Naval career. Do not let yourself slide just because you passed the first one. Trust me... it gets harder to maintain as you get older, but I'm 33 and outrunning my 26 year olds.

However, like was mentioned above. Do not ignore shin splints or serious bone and joint pain. Muscle fatigue and soreness is one thing. That you can push through and shove to the back of your mind, but pain in the joints can cause you serious problems in the long run down the road, and pain in the bones is idicative of a problem that needs to be addressed now.
