Final Select Question

Many of us were selected for Pilot/NFO/SWO etc. My recruiter was very vague in the next steps. Can anyone please explain what the final select board is? Also what steps we must take in preparation other than the big 3 (Gen. Orders of a Sentry, etc) and staying in shape?

Cheers!

Straight from the OCS page...the gouge pack is a good place to start. They have given us everything to make life a "bit" easier while at OCS lol.

Just scroll down under memorization item and click the hyper link.

As far as waiting for the Final Select, seems like it varies on time but once your medical is approved and your SF-86/NASIS or whatever you want to call it is complete then they will issue the final select with an OCS date. This is just what I have gathered from browsing/stalking the forums for quite some time.

It may be different for me but being a prior and having everything done already (medical and clearance), I was told 1-2 weeks a final select will be issued (if qualified) from the date the board letter was dated which was the 24th. Being that this board was for FY-14 quotas, the graduation date for OCS can be no later than Oct 1st so ship/report date can be anywhere from 12 weeks prior to this out to anytime next year....which is kind of depressing lol.

Thanks a lot! I didn't even think to check the OCS website itself for preparation academically. As for the final selection, I was under the assumption that they did the Nasis and checked all medical information before the board, not that I am worried.

I hope for a date with decent weather as I lived in Newport, RI when I was younger and I only remember the frigid cold and abundance of snow. Best of luck to you man!

While I was found qualified by docs locally, I am a bit concerned over a back injury (L4 and L5 spondylolysis)which is a mild stress fracture of the vertebrae. Asymptomatic but had some troubles with it when I was running around Iraq in body armor. After some physical therapy and core strengthening I feel 110%. Just praying that they don't hold me back cause of that.

Growing up in Illinois, I can deal with the cold!

I am actually hoping for the soonest date possible so that I am not in OCS when my son is born in November. Probably gonna give CNRC a ring Monday and see what they can do.

The next OCS date that you could go to would have you graduate at the end of November, that one starts Aug 25th.

Well guess that punches a whole in that lol. I guess I should have checked dates in CANTRAC. My son is due the 20th of November so if I get that date I may just barely scoot by.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I recall someone mentioning in one of the threads here that in the case of a birth, it is possible to take leave from OCS and come back after. I can't remember where I read this so I can't link to it and I'm not entirely sure on how reliable it was but perhaps someone here can confirm or deny?

Our president (vice-pres at the time) got special liberty when his wife went into labor. I believe he had to file a request chit for it. It might also depend on when it actually happens, since there weren't any big evolutions at the time; it was like week 2 or or so.

I would just be concerned with being rolled, I don't want to spend any more time at OCS than I have to. I think it would be worse to come back to reality for a bit and then go back to the grind up there.

I am just gonna play it by ear and see what date I get, then just make sure everyone at OCS gets the courtesy of knowing my situation beforehand if I am in fact there at that time.

Hold on... does this mean that those of us who were prorec'd Y last week will be going to OCS Aug 25 or before?!!

That seems a little too quick for me. I saw AW user GISpirate12 was prorec'd Y in May 2013, and has an OCS date for Sept 2013 (assuming this is a start date). That's like 4 months, man.
