I was at attention. The commodore leaned in to talk to me before it all began (there were quite a few people in the little area and it was kind of noisy. I as also smiling and laughing a bit, she was very nice.

Goob and hair can not be more of an oxymoron. But its alright, he the man!

A couple more pictures from the NRD photographer. This ones are in focus and I look to be a bit more at attention.

I wish I had pictures from my swearing in. I had to drive 2 hours down to Jacksonville, called in advance to verify that my final select letter had indeed been signed, they said it was. I get down there, sign a bunch of papers, but before I ink the enlistment contract I wanted to see the physical letter, they go to get it... and apparently it's not in the system, IT HAD NEVER BEEN SIGNED!!! So, result of the story... I had to do my swearing in a week or two later with just me and an LT in a cramped little NROTC office instead of driving down to Jacksonville again. Not a lot of fun, but it got the job done!

I'll just go ahead and say it on behalf of the saltier members: "Welcome to the Navy." :D

Just curious - were you told to wear a suit, or was it your idea?

If coat and tie is not "strongly" recommended, it ought to be. If it wasn't required but you elected to do so on your own, good on you for making the right choice.

Despite what others think or have said elsewhere, at this stage you should conduct yourself as if every encounter is an interview...not necessarily for the current position, but perhaps for something down the road.

Congratulations to you and Welcome Aboard!

I've been tryin' to beat this concept into some young skulls full of cottage cheese for some time -- I wish you better luck than I have had .... :)

I chose to wear the suit on my own. I do everything I can to be as professional as possible. I engaged every trip to the NRD as if it were an interview with the CNO or SecNav (slacks and dress shirt at minimum). I showed up only one time in shorts and a t-shirt. I was not planning on stopping by, but got a call while I was out and was very close so I decided to stop in. (I should have changed first) But I understand this is my career and reputations follow throughout. Plus I paid damn good money for the suit so I figure I may as well use it as much as I can before I have standard issue uniforms to wear. But honestly, as uncomfortable, and a pain in the ass as it is to wear them, I cant wait.

Thank you all for the compliments. I hope to keep the Navy at as high of a professional standard as you all, and the others who have come before me, have.

No, a normal tie. One that I actually tied, while driving on Hwy 85, using the vanity mirror, and steering with my knees because I was late after deciding it was best to PT for an extra 30 mins. Ha ha.

And they create CELL PHONE use laws...

When I swore in, I showed up and the OPO was actually (pleasantly) surprised I was wearing a suit...

Congrats, guys, and I'll probably end up seeing some of you in Newport!

Final Select!

I just got the call from my recruiter about my Final Select! I'm supposed to let them know when/where I want to be sworn in officially. I thought this happened at the NRD, but he said we could do it wherever I wanted. So, I think I'll ask if we can do it while skydiving ;) (But don't worry, I'll wear a suit.) Think they'd oblige?!

In any event, I'm in the 19OCT08 OCS class. See some of you guys there!

I think we have 12 members so far and all but 2 are SNA/SNFO
