So I am living in New York right now and my wife is living in Va Beach. She was originally going to move up here with me back in November but I found out I got selected while I was in transfer. Yes I know they werent supposed to do that but they did and wouldnt help me change my orders. Anyway, I got my orders and have been living in NY by myself since then. My wife has been living at a girlfriends house for free which was nice of her. I plan on moving down into a place in Va Beach for myself and my wife before I go to NSI in Feb. However the BAH where I am at currently is about $400 less than the BAH in Norfolk. Since my dependent is living there and all my House Hold Goods will be there can I collect Norfolk BAH while at NSI or am I going to have to collect the NY BAH? I want to know because I am trying to make a budget for while I'm gone and dont want to sign a lease for something that I may be tight on. Any advise would help. Thanks!

Congrats! My husband is currently an OC at NCSU as a FY09 CORE selectee. 1 year to commissioning. :) To answer about BAH...

I moved our family to Raleigh, NC from Groton, CT while he was in NSI. Our BAH did not change until my husband reported and checked into the ROTC. We were worried they would make us repay the BAH (about $500 more per month in CT than NC) but they did not. You should currently be collecting BAH for VA, not NY as long as you are a Geo. Bachelor, living in the barracks. If this isn't the case, I would imagine you will continue to receive NY BAH until checking into the ROTC at your school.

Also - a note about NSI. Take money with you. I sent my husband with $500 and he spent every penny of it. Bowling, pizza, t-shirts, sweatshirts and trips to the Providence Mall. Take enough. Also, we used every penny of the clothing allowance on the essentials that he was forced to purchase. We used extra money out of pocket for extra shoes and shirt stays since we wouldn't be near a base for a couple of years.

Good luck to all! Have fun!

Has anyone in the May NSI class received orders or had their orders request status change on the STA21 site?

In the welcome package that I recieved, it says the orders will come out mid March. I know it's been said earlier in this thread that someone talked with Mr. Straton said the same thing. I can't wait, though. It's just more hurry up and wait...

SWOwhat- sounds good to me. When are you checking out of your command? I was planning on heading up that way on the 17th or so and staying in my hometown (in PA) until the 19th. You are welcome to ride along if you want to.

I dont know how davebomb plans on doing it but im going to use the GI bill to suppliment the tuition. The tuition is about 20K a year, If you enroll in the post 9/11 gi bill it will pay 100% of tuition that wont be covered by your STA21 money. Also if you choose to take a flight minor, the GI bill will pay all of your flight trainig costs. Ill be headin down there with my PPL and with my minor hopefully will be leaving with my commercial. I have a friend down there right now who is a STA21 OC and hes doing the same thing.

I'll be at ERAU too... got my PPL and 95% of my instrument. I'm planning on using the GI Bill too... per year with flight, tuition is actually upwards of 50K.

When did you receive this welcome package? I don't think I got that one.
