As of today my physcial status is now QUALIFIED and my order request is in for the FEB NSI class. I am going to ERAU and was selected for the PILOT option. Look forward to seeing fellow ERAU selects at NSI. Anyone if FL want to carpool up to NSI for the FEB class??? I am at Mayport (Jacksonville, FL).

So, just curious, have any alternates for other options besides Pilot been picked up? I wish they would tell us where we stood on the alternate list. If im towards the bottom I'de like to know just so I can be realistic and stop hoping for my phone call. Although, I do not expect many spots opening up for CORE....

SWOWHAT...how long did it take for your orders to come through from BUPERS??

Thanks for any info.......

Davebomb,
My orders request was made by Pensacola 12/30/09 and I received them 01/11/10 so about 12 days. However you have to remember the 31st, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd were days off along with the 9th and 10th. I dont know if they were working then but 12 days should be the max I would assume.

So I am living in New York right now and my wife is living in Va Beach. She was originally going to move up here with me back in November but I found out I got selected while I was in transfer. Yes I know they werent supposed to do that but they did and wouldnt help me change my orders. Anyway, I got my orders and have been living in NY by myself since then. My wife has been living at a girlfriends house for free which was nice of her. I plan on moving down into a place in Va Beach for myself and my wife before I go to NSI in Feb. However the BAH where I am at currently is about $400 less than the BAH in Norfolk. Since my dependent is living there and all my House Hold Goods will be there can I collect Norfolk BAH while at NSI or am I going to have to collect the NY BAH? I want to know because I am trying to make a budget for while I'm gone and dont want to sign a lease for something that I may be tight on. Any advise would help. Thanks!

If I remember correctly, you keep your BAH at previous PDS until you check in at your new PDS. There may be a way to request otherwise but I don't think so.

My wife just got her orders for Feb!! We are still deciding whether she should drive or fly there. We live in Virginia.

Drive, you want a car in Newport. Everything off base is a little to far to walk (and you will grow tired of walking around on base) and cabs to Boston and other fun places are out of the question.

Hey just wanted to see what your guys average credit hours per semester are going to be? I am looking at doing 20ish and wanted to know how feasible this may be based on others experiences.

Concur. Having a vehicle up there is well worth the drive up from VA. If you have a car cover, I'd bring it. If parking is in the same place, the sea spray will have it's way with your car while it waits for you to get liberty.

Robert, 20ish hrs/semester is doable. The level of difficulty will depend more on what degree you are pursuing than number of classes you take per semester.

I am in my second semester. I did 20 units last semester and will be doing 20 this semester as well. It is feasible. Its 6 classes. It keeps you busy but it can be done. If you like you can see if your school of choice offers short semesters. Normal classes compact to half a semester so you can do 2 classes in the time it would take to do 1, so you can lighten your class load in your later semesters. SDSU doesnt have these but we are allowed to do them at the local community college. It all depends on if you are willing to put in the extra effort.

20 credits and up is doable but it does depend on the courses(/school). On the other hand, it is aggressive and will require you to keep your studies and your family/social factors in a managed balance. Let a personal thing knock you off focus and it can get out of hand quickly.

FWIW, I passed my final school elections to Mr. Straten and had PCS orders 2 1/2 business days later. I was already med qualified and I had communicated my college status to him a few times so I am pretty sure he had my stuff smooth drafted before I committed.

Speaking of,... anyone in the FEB21 NSI group still not made their college choice?

And is anyone else interested in making a new thread to post "36 Month Degree Plans" for anyone without transfer credit? Because of the time crunch, I was asking schools for DCPs without my transfer credit because the xfr credit evaluations (and transcript requests!!!) seemed to eat up the most time. Could make things easier for next cycle's selectees...

Also, you can go into FLTMPS/CANTRAC and see how many other selects are slated for your school using the CDP from your orders.
