we've been hearing how the Russian economy is circling the drain for some years now and they still somehow keep soldiering on. I support Ukraine, but the idea that Russia will crack anytime soon might be wishful thinking. It also isn't the Russian economy, it is the Russian-Chinese-North Korean-probably Iranian economy. And Russia unlike most Western countries can self-supply many of the critical resources it needs (oil, gas, lumber, food) plus it has a population culturally attuned to suffering who are poor to begin with.
You are more right than I wish you were.

The most important thing is that Russia is emotionally invested in the outcome. Those Ukrainian Nazis have to be thwarted and what is the ancestral home of of the Rus must be brought back into the fold. Full stop.

The idea of a durable peace...?

Internal and “trapped” economies don’t work well. Recent reports coming out of Russia shine light on the “Potemkin” element of their economy. There aren’t grocery shelves full of food and where there are (wealthy areas of Moscow) the food is inordinately expensive or packed with additives like meat glue. The one thing Russia does have (for now) is a very pliable population who think deprivation is normal. So, I wouldn’t get to excited by Russias rather feeble economy.

All of what? Are you implying that this administration is the first in U.S. history to walk back a statement? Because they all have.
It's a pretty important statement, Griz. Is it too much to ask that we get POTUS and the SECDEF on the same page of how we help end a war? Really?

Please. I stand navy my statement. Did you raise this concern when Biden walked back his defense of Taiwan comment…or his suggestion that the U.S. might send troops to Ukraine?

Of course not….because you can’t think beyond your narrow political lens. Save the rest of the angst for the next four years. We know, Trump will destroy the world and make every mistake possible - so there - we have that out of the way.

You didn't answer my question.
You didn’t ask an actual question. You applied a rhetorical tool - just as I did in countering your childish panic with facts you can’t dispute.

Is it too much that the SECDEF asks POTUS "Hey Sir, I'm going to Ukraine to talk about the future of NATO, what are my left and right limits on our discussion points re: the biggest NATO issue in the last several decades?"

Perhaps the answer is yes, and I'm just overreacting.
