How bad is discrimination in the military?

Actually grist, the percentage of African-American AF officers to African-American AF pilots is even lower at 7.5% (only 260 total). Looking at the graduation portraits from UPT and ENJJPT and such, these numbers look perfectly accurate. BTW these statistics come directly from the AFPC itself, so they are 100% accurate.

Anyone else have any possible explanation to this gap? I thought the guys at ENJJPT and UPT openly favored minorities. Is the race gap in applications really that large?

I've been in the military for about 8.5 years and I'm a minority. I'm also a Marine 2ndlt who was commissioned a year and a half ago. My wife is korean who is an Ensign with one year in the Navy.

Neither of us have ever had any racial issues...as for getting passed up for 1stlt?...that would take at the very least a severe DUI on your record to stop that promotion...There MUST be more to that situation.
