Good memory, yeah I think that was the actual hangar. I think the best we ever got was something like the local OfficeMax regional staff. There were at least a few hotties :)
I wonder if the hangar party is still a thing at KNKX? Do other air stations host these? It seemed a bit weird to me at the time, but I guess it helped fund MCCS programs on base?? I dunno...

Edit: weren't any hangar parties in New River. 😁

Any maintenance recovery good deal depends on where you're at. El Centro..fuck that. Cebu, in the PI? Cool...(I wasn't on that one, but I heard good stories). Yuma Proving Ground...ugh. I think my HAC screwed the lot lizard bartender from the base club...so there's that. 😆
Or Manado Indonesia, We brought a maintenance crew and engine for an A6 that made an emergency landing there. Had to keep the goat herd they used to crop the taxiway grass away from the cargo ramp (They shit all over it in the shade) and an interesting bunch of Peace Corps workers came through on a refuel stop.

I hope they still do it. I'm sure some families have been created during the after party :)

DFP 1: Why did we take off late?

Appreciate the replies gents.
Late to the party, but just wanted to chime in with some words of wisdom and encouragement of my own.
  • Like many have already said, flying in the fleet tends to be pretty feast or famine especially as a co-pilot. Get in the sim when you can and don't let your stick skills or your ability to manage EPs lapse.
  • Even if you don't have aspirations to the airlines (it's OK to admit if you already do here, just not to your CO or DHs), strongly consider flying GA planes in your free time. It's a great way to sightsee, not a bad way to impress a girl (or guy), and the proficiency you build talking to ATC even in a C172 does in fact carry over to flying in your fleet aircraft.
  • Getting saddled with the shitty little jobs definitely sucks, especially when you're trying to find any sense of fulfillment in it. Realize there is a time to buckle down and bang out that CGRI inspection binder, and there is a time to stiff arm the admin stuff and work on the plan/brief/study for your initial TERF/CAT/whatever X.
    • To that end, I tell the new guys/girls in my squadron, "Nobody ever got FFPB'd for being bad at their ground job, so be the absolute best pilot you can be and put just enough effort into your ground job to not screw anyone over or get the CO fired. At the end of the day, if the balloon goes up tomorrow, all anyone cares about is if you can take 18-20 combat-loaded troops and land to a zone you've never seen before, on NVGs, possibly in a brownout."
  • The cameraderie of the ready room is the absolute best thing about this profession. I don't care how introverted you are, if you're not hanging out with those people outside of work at least here and there, you're wrong. They're who will get you through the bad times.

Speaking of the ground jobs, If you are not a dick your shop NCO's will take care of you.
