Yes, SWO is a bit lower
That means every SNA/SNFO that is PDQ'd for aviation, and goes SWO raises the IQ average of the entire SWO community. Our PDQs should be welcomed in SWOland with open arms, instead of sneered at and reviled!:p

Hi do any of you know when applications are be due for the next IW/Intel board? I just took the ASTB and have most of my package put together. I'm trying to get an idea of how long I'll have to wait to figure out if I'm selected or not.

I'll be up for this one w/ SWO as my third choice behind aviation -- anyone know the validity to the rumors that they pretty much aren't looking at you for SWO unless it is choice #1?

well, it was what RUFi0181 was told from NRC via NRD, realistically right now SNA has much better odds.

If SWO is not your number 1, they will most likely pro X you meaning the board will not even review your kit.

ABF2 - most SWO's I know are unhappy -- but it is the easiest designator to transfer out of... Most lat transfers into the harder communities or advanced educational programs (JAG options) are SWO's. It use to be the easiest job to get in the Navy as well - not so much these days. Overall Naval Officer is an awesome job and opens lots of opportunities beyond the Navy. Keep in mind as well - not a huge percentage of Officers retire from the Navy either...

Part of the problem is they eat their young....

good -- we need more SWO's who love their job. And when you make it -- don't eat your young. As an Officer, you can set the tone of what type of leader you will be.

One of my favorite CO's was a SWO... you either loved him or hated him. He liked to call me every Friday and ask me to step out of the bar and tell him what I did for him that day. EVERY FRIDAY for two years I had to leave the bar to chat with him for 10 minutes about nothing. He just thought it was funny that my drink would be warm...so I switched to drinking red wine...

To be fair, easiest to transfer out of if qualified. For now. Since they're overmanned in JO YG's.

Competition to get into the desired community is the hard part. I know a lot of folks that successfully transferred out of SWO....only 1 was a real headscratcher. Others were all definitely pack plus types or brought some specific talents (education/language/experience) to the table.

Poke around a few other threads, from what DIVO posted it isn't going to happen until March, and some of the SWO guys have said they are being pushed to FY15, that indicates FY14 might be full, but DIVO can look on the goal sheet and give better info.
