Can someone tell me what method they use to check body fat percentage at MEPS? Thanks!

They start with ht/wght BMI which is bogus and not a good method for measuring body fat. I'm 5'6'' and my max weight was 170 but I'm stocky and built AND over 170 so they put this thing on my shoulder that measured my body fat to 17% and a pass.

They use the method that is specific to the service so they will tape you the way the USN will tape you, if you need to get measured you should look at what you need to do to not be taped

Perfect, thank you all! I'm feeling very competitive I just have to make sure I don't screw up the body fat portion. If pro-rec'd but fail the MEPS physical for something like body fat % what are the immediate repercussions? Keeping in mind that I won't be going to OCS until after I graduate in May 2014.

My ASTB scores are 65 8/9/8 but I'm hovering around 23% body fat... Shooting for SNA.

You guys are awesome and I really appreciate how helpful this thread is! Good luck to everyone!

You need to be in standards to apply, if you are over at MEPS you will have to wait I believe it is one week for every 2 pounds you are over.

I have a PROREC for SNA and SNFO already and I do not graduate until May 2014. I have been told no FS until final transcripts are received as the FS is contingent upon you graduating and not phoning in the last semester with a 2.0.

Is it 2.0 for your cumulative that is the minimum or is 2.5?

I'm just stating a low GPA for a semester to finish that would be a no go. I was PROREC May 8th and told anything less than a 3.0 in either of my last two semesters puts my PROREC in jeopardy.

That is correct, it rarely happens though that someone gets less than 3.0 on their last semester.

I was told by my OR that as along as I was within body fat standards, then I could get past MEPS. Is that not correct? That being said, I am only 4 pounds over and I will have that off before I go to MEPS anyway.

If you pass the taping the specific way your individual MEPS examiner interprets the "standard" then you can make it through that part of MEPS without a problem. That's a big "if"! If you can safely get within the height and weight standards in a healthy way beforehand, your MEPS experience will be a lot easier!
