I just don't understand why they take a bunch of guys at once instead of equally throughout the year. Anyone have an answer?
Needs of the Navy. Besides selection for Aviation is usually pretty competitive except the last year where they were selecting higher than normal. The trend was bound to end.

There were some pretty low scores that got excepted in the May board, but with this low of a selection rate you have to have great scores. My scores are pretty average. Im thinking I should study again and retake the ASTB before the next board.

Anyone know the process of reapplying? Can you use a lot of the old paperwork or do you start over...........?

You'll have to wait 90 days to retake the ASTB again. Other than that, you technically only have to resign a few forms to reapply again, but your recruiter will probably tell you you need something of substance to change in your package before he'll let you resubmit. Dramatically improving your ASTB score should be enough to warrant a reapply (that's what happened in my case).

But if I don't get in the first time, I can re-take the ASTB, *hopefully* improve my scores, and resubmit immediately with the change without waiting 6 months? The 6 mos is only for "no change" applicants?

From my knowledge of the process yes. Major change means submit for reconsideration means no 6 month waiting period.

if you retake the ASTB that would be a change that would allow for a resubmit under 6 months, I would recommend you study to get ready for a retake as your PFAR and AQR are both at the minimum.

Right! That's the idea. I accidentally skipped the dichotic listening portion last time and I only had two days to prepare. Now I know what I'm getting myself into and I have a good idea of what to study.

Okay after running some more math, I'm going to try again. Probably start prepping again today and take the ASTB again in a week or two. No point in giving up if there is even a slim chance.
Are you retaking just to re-apply sooner? Because I think your scores on the ASTB are good!

That is exactly why. I will age out if I don't start OCD by Dec. 1. I can't wait 6 months to re-apply. My scores are decent, but I took the ASTB with little sleep, a 3 hour drive to the NRD facility, and not as much prep as I would have liked. So I have a pretty good feeling I'll be able to do much better a second time around. if not, then I tried.

Ahem, *OCS. But I figure if I do worse, then I'm pretty much done. If I do better then I get another shot.

Good ASTB scores generally are 7's or above, if I had a person with 6's I told them to study and take it again.
What would you say about my scores? I'm debating retaking it and I'm getting close to aging out. I'll turn 27 in June of 2015.
