May 15TH Selection Board

Interviews are a huge help. I included three of them, all from the aviation community with my package. As long as they give you excellents across the board they can carry a lot of weight. But I was told they can also be a hindrance. If you get a good one, great, if not you dont have to submit it. But they can be a big help. And the higher the rank, the more supportive it can be. Make sure they include their designator (ie: 1390) when they sign it.
Hey Pigzfly, were these interviews with aviators you knew, or some pilots your recruiter found and set you up with? I was a non-select, most likely because my GPA sucks (2.86) even though I had decent test scores, 8/8/8 65. My recruiter thinks I just need to re-submit again in June, but I feel like I need to add something to my application.

Non-select. Bummed... but not giving up. My recruiter and I decided I should re-take the ASTB in case I didn't get pro rec'd this month, so we could resubmit in June. I significantly improved my ASTB scores from 5/6/6 50 to 7/8/7 58. Hopefully that and some other new stuff will be enough for June's board.

Congrats to those that made it.

Stay with it my friend! Congrats to all selected so far. It's good to see guys always looking for ways to improve. I hope you make it in. Those ASTB stats are almost identical to mine...just throw it back at 'em!

They look at many things besides your GPA...were you trying for BDCP? The GPA factor would definately factor there. If you are coming to the end of college, did your grades slip the closer you got to graduating or was it so bad that you worked hard to raise it to a 2.86? This would matter and factor into the board's selection as well I would think. What is your major? A 2.86 tech degree from MIT would be preferred over a 3.2 liberal arts degree from South Eastern Mississippi University State Tech-Topeka Campus.

The interviews I had done were by active duty aviators that I knew through my dad. They all knew me pretty well, or at least had heard quite a bit about me from my dad. My recruiter did say he could set some up, but that interviews from people who knew me would be more in depth and stronger in support.

no BDCP, I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2005 with an Aerospace Engineering degree, so I'm good there. My grades dropped 2nd and 3rd year (i was in 5 year plan) but I brought them back up the final 2 years and earned a 3.9 gpa my last semester. On top of this I had a DIP and DWI 2.5 years ago. That's why I would like to add something like an interview to my package. Unfortunately I don't know any high ranking pilots, just my old roommate who is in primary at Corpus right now. I doubt an Ensign has much pull in this situation.

I put July 1, 2009. I still have a year left at JU. Master Chief Tranovitch?

We had a different recruiter. I put in for June 30. If there are no hiccups with my JPAS or MEP's paperwork I should be ready to go by July. Exactly like I planned . . . getting out of Newport just as the cold makes its way in! It'll still be tough, but better in the heat than in the cold for this Floridian.

Non-select SWO....Still waiting on Supply. They meet at the end of the month correct?

My recruiter suggested to me that I wait until October to reapply for the new FY if I am not selected for Supply this month.

Yeah. I dunno, I kinda like the cold, makes things interesting when your limbs start going numb.:)

Yeah its not bad in the cold as long as you maintain the activity. If you stop for even just a couple of minutes it sucks because its so hard to get going again. I played football in MN (out on the prairie - middle of nowhere) and towards the end of the season when it was cold as hell, we would run the sidelines during off plays just to keep moving. Everything slows down when its cold.

-- Once it gets cold at OCS, Pt is moved inside. You PT and run the PRT in a gym. I hear it can get quite crowded. They use a sensor to record number of laps for the prt in the gym so people cant cheat.

Coming from the deep, humid south. I'd take running in the cold anytime. There's more oxygen in the air. :p

Hahaha yall are crazy! I'm completely used to running/lifting in 90ish with humidity, even to a point where you could say I enjoy it. Heat runs are where its at! Then again, yall probably think I'm crazy :icon_wink

I did hear that RI is nice in the summer though, so weather (It's underlined, italicized, and bold for a reason... think about it) wise it shouldn't be that bad for any of us.
