I knew thatbolded out weather would be overlooked :watching3. No s**t its going to suck either way hah.

Also my recruiter said that they're getting a lot more applicants than usual. That may just be their district but if you're applying for the first time, or even re-applying, get it in ASAP because it may become even more competitive as time goes on.

Yeah, well. The Dude abides.
Just remember that even though there are more people applying, there will be more spots opening up as discussed in a previous thread. I think the numbers for pilot were going from ~130 to 250 for the whole year. Just something to think about.

Also, just because there are more applying doesn't mean they're more competitive. I'd say the ones on AW represent the better applicants, just by the nature of them seeking out this community.

I'm thinking it is because a lot of Reagan era build-up pilots are hitting their 20 years and retiring, leaving a lot of spots to be filled.

This sounds dead on. I know the civilian ATC field is hurting bad because of the big layoff/rehire back then. All those guys are retiring so now there is a huge void.

yeah but how many guys are staying in 20 years? i would think the aviators who are 0-3, 0-4 get out at a larger rate than someone who has been flying 20 years...also how many of the guys hired in the reagan years still even have a flight billet? ....i think its the guys hired on in the mid-late 90's that are getting out in larger quantities to make a difference in slot availability.....but of course, correct me if im wrong.

Yeah... from my limited personal experience and what I've read on here, I don't see many guys who are retiring after 20 years in the Navy still having flying duty before they leave.
