May boards

Yeah I'm in the June boards now as well too...so you've already got some company lol. I've been trying to get in since January (started in December) so the road to completion is a long one - just keep in mind what's at the end of the line, and it'll all payoff.

What happened? Why did you get rolled back again?

Advice

Whatsup guys. This is my first thread on this website, I just signed up today. Can anyone give me some advice about getting into a flight slot? I don't necessarily have a preference on which branch.

I just took my ASTB today and I only got a 4/5/4/45. I have solid LOR's from employers, professors, and congressmen. My GPA is 2.8 with a BS in Business and minor in Aviation, and I have yet to take the PT, however, I am extremely athletic and can run and do pu/su without a problem.

Should I focus on the ASTB and retake it? Or should I hope to "ace" my physical and submitt my package as is?

I might retake the ASTB if I were you. I think the minimum scores for it are 4's. Look into getting the Baron's Military Flight Exam's test prep book as well as the Arco book. Both are pretty good. If you can do the math in them the math on the ASTB will be easier.

^^ agreed. You're going to be up against some stiff competition, so having scores well above the minimum would be best. In addition to the books mentioned by cj, check out the ASTB threads on here, there is a lot of really great gouge. Also, the physical readiness test scores are not submitted with the initial application. They are part of the documents that are submitted after one is professionally recommended. So they would not have any bearing on your pro rec, just final select.* You have 30 days to study- retake the ASTB, rock it, and do as much as you can to make your application strong. Best of luck!

*disclaimer- This is valid if you're applying for Navy OCS. I don't really know too much about the application process for the other branches, things may be different.

Well here is the deal if you summit your package as is... there would be a small chance that you would get a flight slot (Not saying that you won't). Getting accepted into OCS is all about competition! The higher scores you have, the better the chance. Also they do look at the whole person concept as well. They are not just going to take a look at your ASTB scores they will look at your GPA, motivational statement, LOR's and extra curricular stuff too. They want the Guy that is well rounded!

I believe the scores that you have right now are the minimum for pilot.

If you were on the selection board would you pick the guy with the minimum scores, or the one with the higher scores?
Another consideration you have to take into affect is how many pilots does the Navy need? How many do they need for this particular month? How many people are going up for pilot for that month?

I hope this helped sorry if I confused anyone.

CJ; Nik; D Roc,

Thanks for the advice. I'm definately gonna have to take it again if I want a good shot I figured. But whatever I get for a second score is NOW my new score and voids the first one, i.e. my first test score is no longer considered so, God forbid, if I do worse they'll look at the most recent test scores...is this correct?

Another question...
You are are given 3 chances on the ASTB for the Navy (we all know that). But the AFQT is a different test for the Air Force. If I were to take the ASTB 3 times, would I be eligible to take to AFQT and shoot for the Air Force?

Yes, the most recent score replaces all other scores.

I don't see why taking the ASTB 3 times would prevent you from taking the AFOQT, but I would ask an AF recruiter just to be sure.

The ASTB and the AFOQT have nothing to do with one another. So yes you can take the ASTB 3 times and it will not make a difference for the AFOQT. Two different branches.
Also the most recent test score is your valid one even if you do better one the first try your second (most recent) one is the only one that counts.

Back to the May boards .... My recruiter said my package will be seen at the May boards - however my kit won't be in until Wednesday May 6th at Noon - Anyone hear of the 10 day rule? She said as long as its in 10 days before the board meets, it will be seen. I should probably just plan for June or july!

I think about that end of the road everyday, since Feb. I hope all of the waiting does pay off. We will see I guess.

like when you drop a cheeto?

haha, that nearly made me choke on my drink.

I've heard of the 10 day rule but i don't really believe it. I think if it's not PQ'd about a week before the month starts, plan on it waiting another month. There are a lot of us out there applying. Seems like everyone has had to wait longer than expected. All I know is that my packet FINALLY went out a couple weeks ago after spending a month with my OR.

I really am just hoping this pays off. I am not above applying all over again if it means it will happen.

ready
my board date speculation

An FYI for those that may not look at the past month threads.

It looks as though the schedule for community meetings last month were approximately as follows:

SNA/NFO/SWO:
* board met: 15th of the month
* result out: 21st of the month
IW/INTEL/SUPPLY:
* 29th of the month
* results out: 1st (or 4th maybe because the 1st was Friday and results were out late afternoon) of the following month

Now these are my best guesses from following the thread and when people posted. So please don't read this as the Bible of May Board Dates. This is just my research of what has happened in the past and speculation of what just might happen this month as well.

Good luck all!

Ya according to the spreadsheet I have, most of the boards are supposed to meet on the 15th, but it doesn't seem like those dates are ever really set in stone. I'm not planning on hearing anything until the first week of June, just for the sake of my sanity.

Final Select SNA- Sept 13th
So I am unsure if I have been pro rec'd or not? My OR has sent in my package and they have done the security clearance check on me. I have also taken the MEPS and the PRT so does that mean I am waiting on a final select?? If I have been Pro rec'd then she didn't tell me??
